Wondering how long it will be before we start seeing blue-ray DVD players and records in the USA.

Did some web searches, looks like mid to late summer.

Very comprehensive release schedules for HDDVD and Bluray.

Sony was going to release movies BEFORE players were available, but later changed their minds. Both the movies and players will be released June 20th.

Actually I just found this on:

1.14 When will I be able to buy Blu-ray products?

If you live in the US, you will most likely have to wait until June 25, 2006 when Samsung will introduce their Blu-ray player (was recently pushed back from May 23, 2006). Pioneer and Sony plan to introduce their respective Blu-ray players in July. While we've heard very little about the launch plans for the European market, we expect it to follow shortly after the US (some products might launch earlier).

So..
Discs - June 20th
Player - June 25th

You'll have a couple of days to drool on the discs if you buy them locally or wait for them to arrive from amazon.
