I've used a DVD Doctor for years, and I have yet to harm a disk with it. They're not really abrasive enough to do any damage - in fact I sometimes have to repolish over the same scratch 20-30 times if it's deep enough to feel by running a fingernail over it. Mine is the manual version, but I've looked at the electric one and it seems to have about the same abrasiveness. I'm pretty sure that unless you leave it on too long or forget to wet it that you won't hurt a disk.

On a side note, the unit I use tells you to buff the disk by hand to remove the marks left from polishing, but as far as I can tell it's just for aesthetics. They play the same whether I buff them or not.
