hello!

Could you recommend me some cheap capture card? I need it for transfering VHS material onto my computer.
Internal solution is not an option (PCI), so if you could recommend me some 5.25" or external cards I would appriciate it.
:thanks:

External devices are typically USB, and typically use proprietary drivers and capture software.

Does your computer have USB connectivity? If so, here's a link to some 50 devices, sorted by price, currently for sale at newegg.com:

Three years ago, I suggested you use better thread titles. "Capture card" is NOT a good title. "Looking for external capture device recommendations" would be better.

I have a Pinnacle DV500+ in an old computer I use for this. But if I had to make a setup now, I would get a Firewire bridge. Basically, I'm assuming you have a firewire input for capturing off a miniDV camera here...

But a bridge basically takes analog inputs and digitizes it and sends it over via firewire as DV footage. You can get a specialized bridge from a company like Canopus, or most good miniDV camcorders can act as a bridge if you know how to config them properly.

True. I would have recommended such, but snoopy's request specified "cheap" -- ;) And the USB-based products start at around US$30.
