View Full Version : Problems with email notification

I've had some problems with email notification since yesterday. Either I don't get any mail or they arrive long after a new post has appeared in a subscribed thread. For example, the HDRAGC thread in the Avisynth usage forum got a new post earlier today but I haven't received any email yet.

I am having quite the opposite problem.
My 'Default Thread Subscription Mode' is set to 'No email notification', but I have been getting emails for every reply in this (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=93615)thread I that I have subscribed to.

I had the same problem as Boulder yesterday...
It seems to fixed now though, as I received all of yesterdays (and todays) e-mail notifications today.
Cheers

I've been getting them all right, things have worked fine since a lump of notification emails arrived yesterday.

I have not received any e-mails today either!
I'm still getting them from the other forums I'm registered to. And nothing is being dumped in my MSN junk folder (the very thought).
Cheers

I have an easy solution for all that: let's stop the spamming server in its track. I see some people here that visit every day anyway so email notification is really of no use.

Email notification allows for more lively discussion. With it, you know immediately when somebody answered, and you can answer back. Without, you will wait your daily visit to answer all the threads you've joined in. Imho, that's not as good, because you have to take care of all the threads ( lest you forget one ), which takes time. Moreover, somebody will most likely already have answered, or deviated the subject, which makes it more difficult to read.
Imho, email notification is a major feature of the forum ( I'd say it comes in third, after the search and the highlighting of not up-to-date threads )

The board supports RSS.. since v3.0 I think.
Without, you will wait your daily visit to answer all the threads you've joined in. I visit so often email wouldn't help speed things up...
I just heard from the admin.. the server was exploited to send spam and has been added to the major blacklists.. so if your mail provider uses those, it's no surprise that you won't get any notifications anymore.

I completely missed the RSS feature. So that makes my previous post completely bogus I guess :p

The anti-SPAMing software has become more of a problem than SPAM ever was. I'd much rather just delete mail I don't like than not get something I wanted...
I just wonder how long it will be before they start filtering on political content?

if only spam filters had some sort of intelligence... it takes me a fraction of a second to decide if an email is spam or not.

if only spam filters had some sort of intelligence... it takes me a fraction of a second to decide if an email is spam or not.while spam is annoying (very) I think it's good that some things and some more HAVE to be still done by humans.
if you plant the Demon Seed that slumbers inside of us you'll never know where it might lead. of course that doesn't stop us ;)

I think that I haven't received any notification for about one month (maybe more). I have no antispam (it's turned off) on my internet mail box. What could be wrong?

I've had some delays receiving notifications yesterday and today. Suddenly all of them arrived together.

My thread susbscription seems to be seriously broken. My 'Default Thread Subscription Mode' is set to 'No email notification' (always has been), but I just now got an email notification about a new reply here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=884782#post884782).
The last time someone bumped an age old thread and replied to it, the same thing happened.

The forum software update seems to have disabled the email notification, or is it intentional? I haven't received any emails for my subscribed threads. Fortunately I can use the user CP to check for new posts in them.

I haven't received any emails for my subscribed threads.
Same here. :(

Same here also :( But it seems to be fixed now.
Word of warning! Do not try to change your target email address when the email delivery system is broken. If you do then your account will end up in a weird limbo state where you have no access to anything (can't even PM for help). I know, I just did it to myself.
And even better news.
All thread that tried to notify me during the problem have been automaticaly unsubscribed.
So check your thread subscriptions on threads with posts since the 14th or 15th.

Before you sign up for a forum you could add *@doom9.org (for example) to your whitelist, if you have that ability.
If you really have trouble with this you could buy your own domain and email hosting for a few $ every year.
