This program is great! Kudos to the author you have made my life so much easier i cannot express my gratitude in mere words :)
Some things i thought of:
1. Make the gui a little more informative.. i figured it out but it took a little while
2. Sometimes wven when i fix the main movie vobs, it gives me errors on the vts_03_1.ifo and the rest after that.. not sure why
Anyway once again great program and if anyone else has any ideas for the next version feel free to post!!

Thanky you! I like that.
Well, one suggestion whould be, IfoEdit to be resizable.

first,thanks for this program,Derrow, you do really a good job ! :)
wishes for future versions:
1)please make ifoedit handling vobs created from other programs,so that other mpegencoders like TMPGenc or CCE can be used for reencoding, the quality of Rempeg is very poor.
2)it would be nice to use ifoedit also for producing Mini DVDs, that means creating some aditional functions:
- a editable filesize for splitting vobs (for example 700 MB)
- creating a new video_ts.ifo and vts01_01.ifo for each resulting/remuxed vobfile with the corrected chapter entry points from the original ifo.
by the way I analysed some vobs of several DVD titles with
Rempeg and I found some "strange" GOP sequences for example "the 5th element" :
IPBBPBBPBBPBB
the length is 13 frames and as far as I know CCE or TMPGenc can't create such GOP sequences ( I mean this length of GOP not the structure ), so a correct remuxing from reencoded *.m2v streams with CCE or TMPGenc using ifoedit will fail.

malzahn
p.s.: I know, my english should be better...

Malzahn: I'm familiar with the method used by IfoEdit to remux, and it will not fail on such sequences. It doesn't matter how many frames, or whether they are progressive or interlaced, the GOP's will be repackaged with the correct NAV packs. This is done by tracking the tff/rff and progressive sequence flags. You should see the sequences from a trailer we used to test this - anywhere from 3 to 22 frames per GOP!
Also, it is possible to remux good m2v files from any encoder PROVIDED they correctly encode these flags.
What is most important is how closely the new video resembles the old in GOP structures. This is where ReMPEG2 is better, because it exactly copies the structure of each GOP. Differences in the number of frames can cause some problems with the interleave and smooth playback, but that's being worked on.
Some books (notably DVD Demystified) give the impression that each VOBU is .5 seconds long exactly, and contains just one GOP. This is not true, good vbr encoders make GOPs of varying length as needed by the content. Then VOBUs of approximately .5 second are composed from that.

@mpucoder:
thanks for your answer, of course you're completely right and I'm completely wrong.
I had some testing yesterday, and one time I used the stream exchange tool from Rempeg and analysed the GOP structure of the resulting vobs afterwards with Rempeg thinking that these vobs were created by ifoedit.
sorry for that (and the double posting), but I was a little bit too tired yesterday.

That might be an idea.
Does anybody else needs this feature urgently ?

An obvious wish: an option to remove a Video Title from the original set.

good idea, and easy to realize. :p

Ahh and of course a preview of the total output size would be cool, so one could strip exactly enough to fit on the 4,7 GB Media ...
Just my 0,02 Euro :-)

P.S. Derrow, did i get you right in that other thread, reencoding with other tools then reempeg should work now too and produce good output structures ?? ( i last tried that with ifoedit 0.6 i think, FAILED )

Yes, it should work now properly.
You just have to care, what options/settings are you using, when transcoding a movie with another proggi.
But here you are at your own. I'm still using ReMPEG2.
I would like to test it with an Hardware-MPEG2 encoder card, but someone told me, that such card produces strange .m2v files, that even can't be used by some DVD authoring tools.
So before I buy such a card, I'll first clear up, that it produces a usable m2v file.

Derrow, thx for replying so quick, what options/settings do you talk of ??
I just tried, and it failed again, what i did was:
-1- rip whole movie to hd
-2- reencode main movie with dvd2avi-avisynth-cce combo in 1:1 speed !
-3- open main ifo in ifoedit to remove region protection, save it
-4- open movie ifo, press button "vob extras", uncheck "strip streams", rest is left to default, selct output dir and newly reencoded stream, GO.
-5- copy all unchanged files from the original dvd rip to the output folder from -4-.
-6- try ot powerdvd, menu look chaotic ...
:-(
Movie was trainspotting, 4:3 PAL Interlaced
Did i do something wrong ??

P.S. i cant believe you didn't try out the cce variant, it is SO easy, fast and good, do you need the neccesary files & howto ?

It's the damn proxy-server at our work.
I hate it.
Strange that your menu is looking crappy, cause the
menu is uneffected by the re-mux option!
But the rest sound good. Your created files should work properly.
That would be great, if you could send me all neccesary files for the cce variant, so I could test that with my DVD's.

derrow, i sent some emails to your adress stated on your website ..
as i did get no reply, i ask myself if you got anything, and as i JUST switched my ender email adress i am very unsure if my email failed, or if you simply didn't answer my mails.
So please tell me :-)
Ender
P.S. of course i did not send anything illegal ( like the cce or such ) only some howtos and templates :-)

Since every else is adding their wishes for future versions I'll add my 2 cents. I'd like to see an option to strip unwanted VOBs (trailors, P&S version of the film etc). So I can keep the widescreen version any features I want. Most movies I'd be happy just having the movie portion. There are some that I'd like to have the "Making of", Commentaries etc.. Maybe something like editing the IFO files to remove a section and renaming the next set of vobs so they are sequential.
Also I'd like the ability to combing VOBs of different sources (not all from the same film). So that I could combine several shorts like maybe a favorite 3 stooges disc or some cartoon shorts...

There is one its called vob extras..
And another point.. im not sure if im doign it wrong but iver tired it with 4 separate dvds.. i do the process to make a 1:1 copy of the dvd using ifoedit but it never never never works... once i got the MGM logo to play then the dvd player got stuck on saying "searching" and after that, the other dvds just never never worked . If anyone feels like writing a more in depth explanation of what to do once you have the rempeg m2v that will fit the disc then please id love to hear it..
thanks again and derrow keep it up

This definatly a problem of wrong title-set starting sectors in VIDEO_TS.IFO.
Which burning soft are you using?
Xenobyte99
19th December 2001, 12:47
Im using nero to make a vido_ts dir then putting the files inside
Derrow
19th December 2001, 16:59
Nero is okay, but you will be needing the version 5.5.6.4
The older versions produces other start-sectors in image-file, if the VIDEO_TS.IFO and .VOB is smaller 32kb.

Hi,
My wish: :)
An option to reencode a menu would be great, some dvd's have menus with more than 500Mb and that's to much!!
So please try to make that possible.
Thx & Greets
