I have written a command line avisynth optmizer. It takes an avs file, and optimize it using trim and different filters for each zone. It works with xvid1.1 and virtualdubmod. The output avs can be used with any other codec/application.

There is a gui for this tool, it's MKVMagick written by buzzqw (It's a gui for a lot of multimedia programs). I never used it, but i think that is a good program. There is a topic somewhere in this forum
