Aopen has released the dual-core version of the popular Pandora miniPC. The new one suports the Intel Core DUO CPU running at 1.67 to 2.0 Ghz and sports an integrated slot-loaded DVD-RW drive into its tiny 6 in square X 2 in tall frame! DVI, TV, and HDTV output. You probably know the drill.

You can build one at http://www.dvnation.com/pandora.html or just that one part you need at http://www.dvnation.com/store.html .

I tested my single core at 1.4Ghz Pentium M in CPUMark benching against my 3.0Ghz Alienware P4 and the 1.4Ghz Aopen Pandora beat it so this dual-core version has to be smokin! I'd love to get one for all my A/V conversions.

It looks like you can build your own laptop. That's cool.

Yeah. They told me the build your own laptop feature is coming next week. MaximumPC did a feature on it recently. Aopen has discontinued the 1559 model but DV Nation will carry models by Asus with 14" or 15+ in widescreen, single-core, and dual-core, and one or more even have an integrated webcam!

That's way cool.

I wonder how long it will take the rest of the industry to get on board and offer standard components so we can build laptops the way that we build personal computers.

I fear that the days of the desktop are numbered.
