View Full Version : Safe temperature threshold?
When encoding video to AVC, the intel active monitor starts beeping after an hour. Specifically it is "System Area 2" temperature sensor crossing the threshold.
Any idea what "System Area 2" would be ? Is it safe to adjust the threshold from 50C to say 60C ?
I would think a safer "adjustment" would be to replace the processor heat sink and fan with something more effective, or add more airflow to the case. I do know that my old AMD runs 65°C consistently, and i never need to heat my bedroom. Whether or not that's "safe" can be debated 'til the end of time.
I recently added an extra fan to increase the airflow around the hard drives.
OK, found something here (http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/cs-012552.htm)
Looks like Area 2 for my board (865GBF) is the top corner when the power supply box is closely placed next to the board. And more importantly If you are using IntelŪ Active Monitor, you may increase the temperature threshold. You can safely increase the Zone 1 or Zone 2 threshold up to 60 Degrees Celsius (140 Degrees Fahrenheit). Whew!

I'll bet the rise in temperature is somehow related to the heat that the CPU is generating, even though it is not coming from the Processor Zone.
Good work tracking down that Intel document that said that you could safely increase the threshhold to 60 degrees C.
