View Full Version : DVD Remake Pro - Removing previews without breaking menus?

When I remove the previews/extras/trailers of the movie "Fun With Dick and Jane" the movie no longer goes to the main menu, but just starts playing the movie. When I try to go to root menu the DVD stops playing.

Is there a way to hide the preview blocks, and keeping intact the main menu?

Two questions outsiders71.

What version of the program are you using and are you trying to "delete" or "hide" "...previews/extras/trailers"?

@Dimad

I'm using v3.5. I'm just right clicking on the blocks that have previews, fbi warnings etc and selecting hide block.

BTW if there is a way to just to remove the content how would I go about this? The problem I'm having really isn't removing the video, it's repairing the broken DVD navigation after I've done that.

There are no universal instructions on doing it. When you physically remove part of a DVD all navigation pathes going through it are naturally broken. And it does take a lot of efforts to recreate navigation. Usually it is way easier just to hide parts you don't need - it reduces the size and DvdReMake automatically modifies navigation so that short replacement clips are not shown in most cases.

Well is there a special way I should be hiding these blocks? I've always just right clicked the previews and choose "Hide block".

After I go and edit out all the previews, DVDRMP doesn't highlight or show any DVD navigation errors. It's when you export and view the movie that you realize there is an error, because it skips the menu.

There is no special way. The only thing you are not supposed to do is to hide menus which are still used :) Just to make sure that playback problems are related to editing try
a test export of an original disk without editing. Also you can try to disable "autobypass hidden parts" option in settings dialog.

Tried disabling "auto bypass" and it still jumps straight to the main movie and not the menus. ::shrug::

I am by no means an expert in the DVD navigation field, but I did use DVDRemake Pro in conjunction with PGCEdit to back up my DVD of Fun With Dick and Jane, Region 1 disc.

I used DVD Remake Pro to hide the full screen version of the movie and then the "macro" to automatically select the widescreen version and hide that portion of the menu.

Once that was done, I used PGCEdit's macro function to jump to the main menu - bypassing all of the previews. I can still access the previews via the "bonus materials" button in the menu.

By only hiding the fullscreen version of the movie, I was able to fit it on a DVD-5 with no encoding/transcoding necessary.

To make a long story short, you could use my process above to have the DVD jump to the main menu upon insert and still keep the previews. It worked for me.

So is there a reason why navigation is breaking when hiding the previews?

I've tried altering the first play section, I got it to jump to the VT6 where the menu is located. But I can't get it to automatically go from PGC1 to 4. :|.

I can't answer that.

I do know that the previews are the first play action when the original DVD is inserted. Within the menu selections, there is also a button to access the previews as well.

With my disc, I did not hide the previews. I used PGCEdit to jump to the main menu, effectively bypassing the previews.

If you haven't tried PGCEdit, you should. It is freeware and has a remarkable "Trace" function which shows you what actions are carried out at each pgc command. By using it's "Trace" function, you might be able to find out where the problem exists in your menu structure.

Really weird. I ran the trace inside DVDRMP and after editing the first play section, I got it to jump to the menu. But when I export the movie it goes straight to the movie. YARG

I'm gonna give PGCedit a try.
