Can you creat MPEG1 from MPEG2?

Have video on DVD, using Vegas 6 I can import the video onto a timeline from the VIDEO_TS folder, but it's split the video into separate files VTS_01_1,2,3 etc and when I put these files together there are black frames (like a skip) between them. I need to create a seemless MPEG1 file of this footage. Do I need ripper software to create an avi, then make MPEG1. I'm totally new to this, so any info would be appreciated.

One way to accomplish your mission would be to:

1)Use DVD Decrypter in "IFO" mode, with "File Splitting" set to "None", to rip (copy to your harddrive) your DVD video as one .VOB

2) If "Vegas 6" can save in MPEG1 format, load this single .VOB into it and save as MPEG1.
