Today I have acquired the ownership of about 20 computers with various processors ranging from 1ghz to 2.5 ghz. I have also gained the windows 2000 multi-computer licenses. So i have a question and i couldnt find the answer in the forum so far.

What i want to do is use the 4 computers i have so far, each running windows 2000 fully patched and each having xvid and autogk installed.

Individually each one could encode a different movie but that would be too easy and wouldnt get to my question.

Is there a way, using autogk or 3rd party software, to combine the power of the 4 i have setup plus my desktop to encode a dvd to xvid? I found 1 program called Vidomi but i couldnt get it to work.

Vidomi works, but only with the antiquated version of XviD with which it's bundled. It also doesn't allow for audio other than 2-channel Lame MP3.

hah, distributed encoding would be kind of slick

I've always just encoded on different machines, and it works pretty well

Well, i was thinking about thet ALOT...
and About 2PassEnc.. and about Storage for Files..

so here is My Point of view(or just a solution).. how to get it all working.. with CURRENT Soft I HAVE(not by myself)

GK makes Test Encodes(5%) .. then we Parse .stats file an find the keyFrames..
then we split file between(i dunno if it's correct) PC on the NetWork... just with AVS Script.. we'll make 2-pass partial encodes on those PCs... and finally Join encoded parts on MasterPC...

thete are problems: what if the Split is not Correct and BitRate distibution is not good.. so then wee need some programming.. or FAST Bitrate distribution on the whole Movie.. after the 1st Pass on SlavePCs we koin somehow .stats files from different PCs(we'll have to wait until all parts are encoded :( ) and then FAST Distr.. and than Split and Encode(may be.. useful to Calc speeds of PCs.. and me be split Movie in Different KeyFrames..)
there is lots to think of.. but i think the Idea is good..
