I noticed that at http://www.3ivx.com you can get the Encoder/Decoder package for $20 or the Decoder only for $7. But surprisingly, you can also download the Decoder only at:
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/3ivx.htm
It appears to be the same codec as the $7 version. Am I missing something? Because I thought that free-codecs.com only hosted free codecs if the vendor chose to give it away.

free-codecs also post Real codecs, they don't mind about license, copyright and other legal things.

The 3ivX video decoder is free. The standard package has a limitation on the AAC audio en/decoder, which the $7 version doesn't have.

3ivx is an AAC codec?
I used 3ivx for video encoding, I got it free off of freecodecs.com or some place like that.

No, 3ivX is no AAC Codec. The 3ivX FilterSuite contains FAAC as encoder.
