Hi everyone,
I have just converted a mpeg2 file into a xvid file with the use of Gordian Knot.
Quality is fantastic and looks good, although I selected that the file size I wanted was to be around the 1gb mark (4.5 or so gb original mpeg2 file) although the resulting xvid file is about 1.5gb.
Any ideas ?

Otherwise, its just a wild guess.... here's mine: no compressibility testing.

Don't attach it. Moderators have to approve the attachement and that can take a long time. Instead, paste it in the body of your post.

I was correct, no compressibility test:Quality: 0.207 bits/(pixel*frame).
CompCheck3: 0.000 bits/(pixel*frame).
CompCheck5: 0.000 bits/(pixel*frame).Without such testing, undersize/oversize is likely, as well as less-than-optimal visual quality.

Hi,
Is this just a setting or checkbox in GK?

See any of Doom9's GK guides to learn how to perform a compressibility test. You may also find this sticky thread helpful: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=24584
Note: While Doom9 recommends sizing to 40-60% of maximum bitrate, most GK users here prefer 60-80%. IIRC, AutoGK uses 75%.

Hi jggimi,
You are right, but (unless I a mistaken) not all the time. After the comptest AGK uses
-75% for a 16/9 width of 608 and above; for 4/3 it should be 560 or approaching... and
-55-60% for 16/9 width below 608
The above may vary if you force a fixed width and/or the sharp matrix. If I recall correctly exchanges with len0x on that subject (Gee he was really patient with noobs like us at that time :) )
as the matrix and resizer are less precise below 608width, the result is still good/acceptable for a small final avi size (1Cd or below).
I can confirm that the result is really balanced between details in static scenes and nearly no macroblocks in high motion scenes (for a 1cd encode between xxx manual encode and my encode with AGK)
