Apologies if this is been asked and answered - I did look first ;).

I don't want to watermark, but I do want to toot my own horn. I've made a quick (10 sec) small (< 1 meg) DivX 4.11 encoded avi file that'd I like to tack to the beginning of my rips. Something easy to avichop if the person really doesnt' want it there.

VirtualDub (and NanDub) seem to be very picky merging the files. The 'intro' I want to add and the movie are different resolutions and framerates, so it just chokes right away. The are, however, both encoded with the DivX 4.11 codec, the sound is encoded with the Radium mp3 codec at 128kb, and merged into the file at 41000 with VirtualDub.

Any useful suggestions for programs/applications that do this merging easily, or have a method/instructions on how to get VirtualDub or Nandub to do this?

I'd rather avoid trying to make an intro movie the exact dimensions of each movie I rip as they are almost alway (of course) of slightly different dimensions.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciate, and thanks.

There's no way you can do that within the avi format. Basically everything has to be the same: audio codec, video codec, framerate, resolution, samplerate, you get the idea. The only thing that can differ that I can think of is video bitrate. If you really want to use the same clip then you could create an *.asx playlist with both files in a row, but, of course, that would defeat the purpose.
