I have a few DVDs I want to convert to XVid so that my elder brother can watch them on his DVD player. Since it's a somewhat generic player with no chipset info, I want to play it safe and encode using the ESS-based chipset settings. What can I use and at what settings using Koepi's XviD-1.2.-127-25022006? Also, can ESS-based standalones play an AVI with MP2 audio?

What does AutoGK use when selecting the "ESS" compatibility option?

Hi,
-Home theatre profile (PAL or NTSC)
which locks matrix with H263 and/or MPEG or just H263 (sure of H263 not about MPEG) and use bitrate of 4000Kbp/s
- packed bitstreams (edited for correction)
- Bframes still used with VHQ
AGK ESS option is different from the one used in Fair Use Wizard (just made a test encode) which use same home theatre profile but with packed bitstreams and no Bframes (just I-P)
More advice: look in the hardware section for the player that will be used or have a look in THIS (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=98228) sticky.
The divx test cd ver1 or 2 will give lots of infos regarding specific players that can or cannot play:
MP3 VBR
resolution more than 640 width
bitrate more than 4000 etc...
