View Full Version : DVD Reamke Pro crashes!

Hallo, the downloaded demo versions of DVDRemake Pro allways crash my PC (XP with SP2) when exporting 2 merged DVDs. After choosing "Export DVD" the process starts and after a few seconds my computer screen turns black and the PC is rebooting the system.
This is the case since the first version I tried (3.0 or something like that). Since then I tried almost every demo and allways the same thing. My System is otherwise very stable.
Can anybody help me? Thanks!

Hi!

The documentation regarding the demo version of v.3.4.2 states This demo version is limited and does not have the capability of exporting edited DVD. You can still test all the features of the software and decide if it suits your needs. I presume all of the demos of this software have the same limitation...

Are there any problems when exporting project without merging DVDs? Say just import DVD and export it? Do you rip both disks to HD before merging?

Thanks for the answers!
@Seratip: In the demo versions you can't use the "Export test DVD", but you can use the "Export DVD", but only the first seconds of each VTS are exported.

@Dimad: Even if I simply import a DVD and then try to export it DRMP crashes. The files are on my HD. I tested it with several DVDs on my HD, even with self authored (with DVD-lab) TV-captures. Always the same: DRMP starts its job and then crashes (sometimes it crashes on the first VTS, sometimes on the second VTS), black screen and system restart :-(
As I said this is the problem with all demo versions I tested so far. All other (video-)applications have no problems doing their job.
(Maybe I have the opportunity to test it at a friend's PC)
Have you ever heard of this behaviour of your program?

What is your system spec? OS?

Maybe you can try to run in Safe Mode to see what happens. Also, you can run DvdReMake in Windows 2000 or NT compatibility mode (Properties -> Compatibility tab).

Hi Spyhawk,
my System ist Windows XP with SP2.
I will test what you suggested and report later.
I also downloaded DVD Remake, not the Pro version. I will test it with this version, too. Thanks so far!

Edit: Tested to merge 2 DVDs (1 VTS for each disc) with DRM and it crashes, too! VTS_01 vobs, bups and ifos and VTS_02 vobs were created before it crashed. Strange! Sometimes it crashes at the beginning of the export process sometimes a little bit later.

Edit2: Tested as explained above again and it worked! Tested it another time, succesfull again. Only thing I changed, was that I disabled my virus scanner.
Tried to merge 2 more complex DVDs (several VTS pro DVD) with the demo of DRM and it crashed! Can somebody explain me that!?!

Maybe your virus scanner is interfering. What program and version is this? You say that it works when you disabled virus scanner, so try that.

Have you tried compatibility mode yet?

Yes, I think the virus scanner is one thing that is interfering, but there have to be other processes as well. I just told in my previous post, that I had the virus scanner disabled and it worked once then with other dvds it didn't work, virus scanner still disabled.
Haven't tried compatibility mode, because I can't find the properties (using demo version 3.4.2). Where should this be?
Very strange! Seemingly nobody else has this problem :-(

Right-click on the program in Windows Explorer and you'll see Properties.

Running in Safe Mode means you reboot and run Windows in Safe Mode by pressing the key (F8 or Del) or whatever the boot screen tells you briefly. This is another alternative if none of the Compability Mode works. Windows will run with minimal processes and drivers. I never try this so I don't know.

Hi Skyhawk, there was some misunderstanding. I thought you mean the project properties in DRM(P). They obviously do not exist :-)
I know safe mode (abgesicherter Modus :-) and I tried it and it worked perfectly! Now we apparently know that a few processes are interfering with DRM(P), but which one exactly? I tried to completely abort all processes related with my virus scanner (antivir 7). The result was a crash, but it occured a little bit later then when I tried before. Now I could eleminate one process after the other to find out. Puh! Have you an idea what further process(es) could be responsible for the crash?

If you did exit virus scanner and killed all related processes running in the background and still crash, do you have 3rd party firewall, spyware/adware program or any non-windows processes running? If so, exit those. If still crash, then it's one of those windows processes that's interfering. I think some of those are critical to windows, so you don't want to kill those, like explorer.exe, winlogon.exe, probably some more. There might be some sites that tell you which processes are critical to XP.

I don't know what DRM(P) needs to run. Maybe Dimad can give you a special demo build to debug!?

Stupid as I am I didn't look what processes were active in safe mode. I think I will do this and then test it.
Thanks for helping so far!
