I've just encoded my first dvd, with cce 6 pass. It didn't go completely smooth though :p

When I was finished encoding, DVD-RB started saving vobs. But then I got an error message "failed to save.." or something like that. It kept coming up, and finally the program closed down. I didn't know at first what had caused this, but then I saw that I had chosen the wrong output directory. I changed the output directory to a disc with more space, and moved the vobs already created.

I then tried to resume the task from where it let off last time. I changed to three-step-mode and clicked "prepare". After that I went right to "backup" but the program started encoding! I waited a good 12 hours (again!) until it was finished.

It's probably my own fault, but I can't see why I wasn't able to resume the task on the "saving vobs stage". I was using the 1.04 pro version, and I had "write to iso" enabled during the firt session. Also, I ripped the original dvd-files to my computer with dvd decrypter.

And another thing :p I've just managed to overwrite the files I sucsessfully created , by running a short test with a selection of files from the same DVD  How about creating seperate directories for each project in a previous version?

I can guess the reason, but humor me...

Why are you using 1.04? You should be using 1.09.2 from the link you got in the email you recieved. You did get the email, correct?

yes, "ah" -- I see your drift. well in good news, apparently the reg code callback idea (key file) is working well, as in my cursory search, I didn't see anything later than 1.04. I guess the keyfile was probably implemented around 1.05, huh? so respect to jdobbs; looks as if you've developed a system that goes some way towards stymieing the pimply fourteen year olds.

The fact that I was using the 1.04 version seems suspect, I agree. But I did say I "was" using it, I didn't do this yesterday, although it migth seem like it. I have 1.09.2 now, that's the first time I've updated my version. Don't really see the differens though.

But hey, if you don't want to help me that's ok. I guess I'll just have to figure it out myself

yeah, it seems that versions starting at 1.05 are broadly available but aren't fully functional. the revamped keyfile process seems to work great ;)

I then tried to resume the task from where it let off last time. I changed to three-step-mode and clicked "prepare". After that I went right to "backup" but the program started encoding! I waited a good 12 hours (again!) until it was finished.what did you expect? prepare starts to prepare again, disregarding the already prepared files.
so prepare yourself...

In other words you should have clicked only the rebuild button, and thats was it.

I think what he didn't realise was that one click mode doesn't have a resume feature. That must be disabled for the resume feature to work.

Of course if you go from one click mode and then untick one click mode and start again the whole process will start from the beginning.

cheers

When I was finished encoding, DVD-RB started saving vobs. But then I got an error message "failed to save.." or something like that. It kept coming up, and finally the program closed down. I didn't know at first what had caused this, but then I saw that I had chosen the wrong output directory. I changed the output directory to a disc with more space, and moved the vobs already created. You have to have enough space to write... DVD-RB can't write to a full disc. You also can't move the VOB files and resume the REBUILD phase. You should have changed the output directory, went to three click mode and pressed "REBUILD" it would have taken about 15-20 minutes (depending upon whether you are creating an ISO).

Other helpful comments:

1. 6 passes is overkill. Change to 3 -- or better yet, 2. (this is my opinion based upon a LOT of encoding).
2. Read the help or REBUILDER.TXT file. They explain how to RESUME.
3. Keep your version current... have you seen the REBUILDER.TXT file? There have been tons of updates since v1.04.

Ok. I've just finished encoding again now with the newest version. I used 4 passes, but I'll go down to 3 next time.
Thanks for helping :)
