View Full Version : QME - Enables QMatOp encoding for CCE 2.6X compatible frontends with AQE

Hi all,

after doing some test I was really pleased with the visual results AQE produced using QMatOp.

Using AQE for my analogue encodes with QMatOp worked fine since I was using the AQE gui for ECL creation. Some research in the www revealed that DVD-RB Free doesnīt support QMatOp simply based on the fact that it set "adjust_q_matrix" by default to 0 :confused:

Note: Iīve choosen italic for "support" mainly because it is not a mistake by jdobbs to set adjust_q_matrix=0 in DVD-RB Free. For CCE 2.6X itīs just one of many settings. For AQE it controls the feature.

Since switching back to three pass mode with manual patching of the rebuilder.ecl was not an option, I choose to built Q.M.E.

Comment: I posted Q.M.E. rather here than over at the DVD-RB forum mainly because I think that it can also help out with other encoding frontends. There is not only DVD-RB which is supporting CCE2.6X. Thus many more frontend are / could be more or less compatible with AQE but miss the QMatOp feature based on the problem described above.

If any moderator has the feeling that this posting belongs rather to another forum, then feel free to move it.

From the script description:

; Q.M.E. (= QMatOpEnforcer) is only a simple wrapper script between any
; application (e.g. DVD-Rebuilder Free) and AutoQMatEnc. Since some
; applications (e.g. DVD-Rebuilder Free v0.96) are setting the value
; "adjust_q_matrix" by default to 0, AutoQMatEnc will not enable the
; core feature of this encoder called QMatOp. For more informations on
; QMatOp refer to the manual of AutoQMatEnc and search the www.
; Google is your best friend ;)
; DVD-RB Free V0.96 the only workaround to enable QMatOp was to switch
; to "three step mode" and patch the rebuilder.ecl manually after finish
; of the prepare process. This was somehow anoying and so I decided to
; write Q.M.E.
;
; The usage is really simple:
; Just make your frontend (e.g. DVD-RB Free) point to QME instead of AutoQMatEnc.
; Run the QME.Exe the first time and it will generate the QME.ini. Additionally
; QME will ask you to browse for AutoQMatEnc.exe
; Thatīs all. After this you can use the two other settings in the ini to control
; the behaviour of QME:
; RunHidden=0/1
; QMatOp=0/1
;
; Explanations:
; RunHidden = 1 will hide the "DOS Box" of AQE, which really saves you from those anoying
; "pop-ups" stealing your focus when encoding a DVD with DVD-RB Free in combination with AQE :)
;
; RunHidden = 0 will of course show the "DOS Box" of AQE, which is useful for debugging.
;
; QMatOp = 1 enforce QMatOp-Mode regardless of the setting for "adjust_q_matrix" within the ECL file
;
; QMatOp = 0 will not alter the setting for "adjust_q_matrix" within the ECL file
;
; Remark:
; QME will always show up as tray icon (an 8 ball). So you can clearly see if AQE is working even if
; itīs hidden. Iīve successfully tested QME with DVD-RB 0.96 Free under WinXP Professional German SP2

Itīs written in AutoIt and I guess for two ini options I really donīt need to write a read me (At least I hope so ;D)

Very nice.

Not sure if will trickle into the free ver but jdobbs is putting inherent AutoQMatEnc support into the next release of DVD-RB Pro Link (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=813538#post813538)

Hm, I donīt want to go too much into details but suggest you read my "discussion" in the DVDRB2ISO thread:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=108529

Also you should consider jdobbs personal statement within the readme included with DVD-RB Free:
These new features will never be included in the freeware version.

Hm, I donīt want to hurt jdobbs feelings again so what now follows is solely my personal opinion:
I would pleasently suprised if AQM support would be added to the free version of DVD-RB but I doubt that this will happen. I also doubt that jdobbs has pretty much (if any) motivation to modify DVD-RB Free in another way than fixing bugs.

End of opinion !

adding to what darksoul said, you can do MOST of the things that the PRO version can, in the free version also, but takes a lit bit of manual intervention plus some external tools.

Something that the free users should be happy about and should appreciate JDobbs work by giving a small donation, even if they dont intend to upgrade to the PRO version.

I've added it already the Pro version -- I hadn't thought about the freeware. The Pro version should be out soon. I've been spending a quite a bit of time analyzing sources and writing code to recognize garbage in the original streams (causing "Error #0006, framecount differences") and circumvents it where possible. As soon as I have that working to my satisfaction, I'll release v1.09.3.

Maybe, still a chance
