Not a newbie to ripping and burning, but new to DVD RB Pro, wanted to try encoding vs transcoding and have a few questions.

Which is the best encoder as it defaults to HC
Which is the fastest? HC default takes about 4 hours for complete DVD
Is there a free version of CCE
What's the difference between CCE Basic and SP (if I purchase) ?
Is CCE basic worth the money? As I already have XCopy Platinum, full Slysoft suite, 1 click DVD Copy Pro, Copy to DVD, Nero, etc.

Thanks for any input...

best - not allowed to ask, its personally opinion. alot like hc, cce
fastest - rejig ( i believe) although the quality is not up to par withthe others
free version of cce - yes, but it stamps the video with a "trial" logo
diff between basic and sp - number of passes you can do, and a few other minor things. basic is 2 pass max
cce worthe money - absolutely. all the others you listed are awful in comparsion (again my opinion)

Q.1 - Which is the best encoder as it defaults to HC.
A.1 You will probably need to reword this one, as it is a violation of forum rule 12. That said, IMO, I've been the happiest with the output of CCE and HC.

Q.2 - Which is the fastest? HC default takes about 4 hours for complete DVD
A.2 - CCE - almost twice as fast.

Q.3 - Is there a free version of CCE
A.3 - Due to constraints and limitations, the trial versions are useless for a full backup.

Q.4 - What's the difference between CCE Basic and SP (if I purchase) ?
A.4 - SP-Multiple passes and about $2000. Basic-limited to 2 passes with same encoding engine and less than $60.

Q.5 - Is CCE basic worth the money? As I already have XCopy Platinum, full Slysoft suite, 1 click DVD Copy Pro, Copy to DVD, Nero, etc.
A.5 - Only you can answer that question properly, but notice your list is full of transcoders. If your happy with their output, stick with them. I personally think there output pales in comparison with a good encoder(Not even close). My suggestion would be to stick with HC because it's free and real close in quality to CCE(thanks again soooo much Hank315). Buy CCE Basic only if time encoding is a concern.

Try HCenc and AutoQmatEnc, both work good, AQMenc works very well for ultra low bitrates(less than 2000kbps, even 1300kbps) and HC is faster with higher bitrates.

You can use multiple instances of HC using RB-Pro to speed up and AQMenc anyways uses multiple threads by itself.
