before anyone complains yes i searched and yes i read several posts but im still at a little bit of a loss.

im using mencoder on a freebsd system to deinterlace and encode a .ts recording i made using my fusion5 hdtv usb card into a 30fps progressive x264 avi file. i have poked around with the pp option using both the linearbend (lb) and ffmpeg (fd) deinterlacers as well as a few of the others. i see very little if no difference between the lb and fd for final output so im curious as to what i should be using or if it even matters. i have heard of using IBob and kern which people say work the best but mencoder does not have those options.

what should i be looking for? where should i really be looking?

my ultimate goal (since space is a non issue for me) is that i wanna store high def video in its original high def format of either 1920x1080 or 1280x720 at 30p using x264 with a crf in the 18-22 range.

Might want to change your title. You're using the "B" word.

im sorry...but i have honestly no idea why im getting a strike for this. im looking for opinions on what the best deinterlacer in mencoder is for use on 1080i video...hence the topic "best mencoder option for deinterlacing 1080i?". when i said that i know i meant that i know i was probably going to get mixed reviews about whats "best" simply because people have their own opinions.

Oops, my mistake -- should have been a rule 12 strike.
