I mostly encode video from my mini-DV cam that default resolution is 720x480. Which Xvid profile is best suited; AS@LF or Home Theatre NTSC? My standalone player is Divx Certified that handles Xvid fine. I'm using Koepei's latest version.

I don't see much difference between either except when using AS@L5 occasionally stuttering/chopiness occurs at the bottom of the video.

Also, should i resize the resolution of 720x480 before encoding?

In advance, thanks for your imput.

Hi,

Well, that is one of different problems that can occur when playing Xvid with SAP. Home theatre is the safest; if you have a MTK 1389 chipset, you can try the MTK NTSC profile available in CelticDruid Xvid's build.
For SAP chipset info here: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=91616
For CelticDruids build here: http://celticdruid.no-ip.com/xvid/

If the question is: is it better to resize for SAP playing?, the answer should be no; but if the question is I want smaller files can I resize?, the answer is yes, you will gain file size but loose details and sharpness not too much between 720 and 640, more under 640. Make your own visual tests. :)

Thanks. So, I'm better off to leave the resolution at 720x480? Filesize is not an issue; I am more concerned with quality.

Getting back to the initial question; is Home Theatre XXXX a better Xvid profile vs. Advanced Simple @ XX? Which one is best suited for what?

I have the Philips DVP-642/37; ESS Vibratto II chipset. Again thanks.

Already answered: Home theatre for safe SAP playing. For the ESS chipset, the only (IMO) possible profile to use whatever the bitrate.

Concerning the advanced simple@XX 2 params are out of bonds
- bitrate more than 4000kb/ps (L5)
- customs matrixes allowed

:search: on ESS, SAP restrictions, profiles ... to get confirmation if needed
