View Full Version : Backing up Region 1 'Hostel' DVD

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to let anyone know that wants to back this region 1 title up, that it is protected with ARccOS.

I've successfully backed this title up using the PSL 2 plugin for PGCedit and the latest release of DVD decryptor. I then compressed and burned the title back to disc with DVD Shrink and Nero.

Hi!

Perhaps you'd be good enough to post the generated PSL2 file?

Hi!

No problem Setarip. I would of posted back sooner, but the forums were down, and I had to recreate it.

It's attached!

If, after using the PSL2 file to rip to your hard drive, you intend to use the rip with DVD Shrink, then load the rip into "VOBBlanker", set an output directory, set "VOBBlanker to "Process all" and then just press the "Process" radiobutton.

DVD Shrink should accept the new DVD "package" (the .IFO, .BUP, and .VOB files in the output directory) for processing...

They've/We've either created them themselves or have done Internet searches for "PSL" and the title of the DVD...

The easy way to create them is to use the plugin. See how to backup ARccOS DVDs (http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=56831).

I have the Region 1 UR Widescreen edition DVD. The posted PSL file from Sonnet79 did not work for me. With DVDD set for "All movie files" it defaulted to selecting all but the last set of VTS files (#16). I first ran it w/o set #16 highlighted and it posted an I/O error on VTS_01_04.VOB. I then ran it with all VTS, including set #16 highlighted, and it still posted the same error. Next I tried with the PSL file that was posted by setarip_old with VTS 1-15 highlighted. Same error. Highlighted all 16 VTS, same error.

What now?

Thanks,

HDD

@harddrive

Hi!With DVDD set for "All movie files"There is no such setting. In "File" mode, you've either selected "All", "main movie", or "main movie+IFOs".

Which did you select? (You should have selected "All")

Harddrive
24th April 2006, 15:31
DVDD is set for "All." However, it does not select all files on any Arccos protected title that I have tried. There is a mention of this in the Memoirs of a Gesha thread about needing to verify all of the files are selected because DVDD does not select them all even when set to "All."

As I mentioned in my post, I tried both ways - just the files that DVDD selected and also all of the files. Both ways failed.

@harddrive

1) Are you using (as you should be) DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4?

2) Are you sure it's set to its Default settings?

3) Under Tools>>Preferences>>File mode make sure "Ignore Unreferenced VTS sets" is UNchecked...

**EDIT** By the way, in the past, there have beendifferent releases of the same format and same Region DVDs - one for sales versions and another for rental versions

setarip_old,

Thanks for the advice. Turns out the "Ignore Unreferenced VTS sets" box was checked. How do I know which settings are the defaults? Since that box was checked, I'm not sure now what other items may be wrong.

I'm going to try ripping again and see if it works. If it does, then the other settings are probably ok. If not, I'll need some more advice.:)

Thanks again,

HDD

It failed again! This time on VTS_01_03.VOB. I guess I'll try the PGCEdit wizard and see what happens. This is getting discouraging.

This time on VTS_01_03.VOBBased on the changing "problem" .VOBs with each rip you've tried, it would be my guess that your DVDROM/reader or burner is faltering. I'd suggest you try the following:

1) Clean the DVD

2) Run a DVD/CD cleaning disc on your DVD ROM/reader or burner (whichever you're using for ripping). Maxell makes one that sells for approximately $10US

Finally got this to work by doing 3 things (not sure which was responsible, but the result is what counts). Cleaned the DVD, cleaned the DVD drive with a cleaning disc, and used the wizard with "Ignore Unreferenced VTS sets" box checked.

Thanks, setarip_old, for all of the helpfull suggestions.:thanks:

Every time I hit a disk that is protected by Arcoss, I just use DVDFab Decrypter and it works great. It seems odd to me how some people are so against DVDFab. It doesnt have the cool options DVDDecrypter has, but it has never failed me on any disk that DVDDecrypter has had a problem with.
