Hi everyone!

I have a website where im planning to put some videos(streaming) and ive been doing some tests to decide which format i should use.

source file:
4 minute captured from vhs mpeg1 clip 352x288

output files were 8 megs

i tried windows media encoder for WMV, Mpeg streamclip and quicktime pro for Mov/h264, the thing is that i read that Mov format is better for streaming and will have a smaller size, but on my tests so far both look the same, WMV will even look better when viewed fullscreen.

Does anyone have any tips on how to "maximize" the MOV format or is WMV better?

i tried to encode the same clip with StaxRip and using x264 and the output was no different at 5 megs than the WMV anf MOV output?

Is it possible to stream "x264"

Thanks

Ricardo

Before streaming wmv, try DivXWebPlayer (http://labs.divx.com/archives/000072.html), I've used it to stream DivX content and it's good, just a few html :)

Note: only .mp3 audio is supported.

Have you tried RealMedia? I share video clips with friends via BaDonGo.com, and with .rm files I can get very crisp video which loads and plays almost instantly upon loading the page. I typically use 256kb/s, or 2 MB per minute.
