Hi!

what are the main advantages/disadvantages between the different audio codings available in AGK (AC3 - VBR MP3 - CBR MP3) and the video codecs DIVX - XVID?

I suppose VBR means variable bitrate and CBR means constant bitrate - is that correct?

thanx in advance ;-)

Yes, you're right about VBR and CBR.

For optimal audio quality, you should retain the original audio track.

If size comes at a premium, you should use VBR at an appropriate quality.

Hi,

I would like to contribute on possibilities between the differents audios available:
-DTS: when original sound is retained; should be +-700Kbp/s; extremely large file
-MPA: same as AC3 (MPA=mpeg2 audio/MP2) except, usually, no multichannel

-AC3:when original sound is retained; should be 384/448 kbp/s for 5+1 and 192/224 for stereo
+ retain original soundtrack quality, real 5+1
- much larger files than MP3, also high dynamic range (I hate having to push up or down my remote depending on quiet or explosives scenes :sly: )
-MP3: can attain near original quality (VBR+ High Bitrate like 224/256 kbp/s)
+ fair to very good quality for stereo, fair file size, normalized dynamic range
- No multichannels, no DPL2 (borked actually in AGK)
Exception: 5.1 MP3 possible with AudX outside AGK

Just my 2cts :)

Generally IMO AC3 is the best compromise between size and quality. DTS, if keptm is enormous & but low bitrate mp3 loses too much quality. AC3 is supposed to have a High dynamic range.. thats why they put all the explosions in the films! I now prefer divx to xvid as I have problems playing back some (latest) xvid but not Latest divx (6.2). My TV card captures use MP2 and its ok but in general if the source is AC3 (satellite /cable /whatever) it will probably be of better quality. Commercial authors hardly ever (never) USE mp2 on DVds as I think its much less compatible with North American players
