Hi All

Just encoded Cool Hand Luke which I think has an aspect ratio of 2.35:1. The problem is when I play the backup in my dvd player the TV switched to 4:3 instead of 16:9. This means there are black bars top, bottom, left and right.

If I manually change the aspect ration to 16:9 on the TV, the film is displayed perfectly with small black bars top and bottom which is fine.

Is this a bug in DVD-RB Pro?

Is there anything I can do to change the backup so that it will get the TV to switch to the correct 16:9 aspect ratio (bearing in mind that what has been encoded is fine)?

Thanks

Pete

The backup keeps the characteristics of the original disc unless you choose to do a 4:3 to 16:9 conversion...

Not sure in your case, but there are many DVDs that are encoded with a 2.35:1 movie letterboxed in a 4:3 container. Most of them are older movies like "Cool Hand Luke". It sucks -- but it is unfortunately true. I just ran into that with "High Plains Drifter" recently.

I happen to own that title ("Cool Hand Luke"), so I'll give it a try and see if it holds true for that one.

Everything seems OK now - sorry to waste your time.

My DVD player is connected to the TV via my digital PVR, I think this may have caused some sort of problem with the ratio switching. Can't get it to go wrong now but it was consistantly wrong last night...wierd.

Thanks
