Ive been using AutoGK for quite sometime and have never had any problems (well, the odd one, but could always work it out by myself) ... until now! (I bet you would've guessed so much)

FourCC of the file in question is DVSD, its a movie from a MPEG-recording harddisc-videocamera, edited and exportet as DV-AVI. I've never had this happen before. AutoGK (or better VirtualDubMod) seems to be having troubles with the fileformat, since it doesn't even recognize the Input Codec or the source duration. Any suggestions maybe?

Update: trying to open the file in VirtualDubMod itself yields the following errors:

Couldn't locate decompressor format 'dvsd' (unknown)
VirtualDub requires a Video For Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by the Windows Media Player, are not suitable. Only 'Direct stream copy' is available for this video.

AVI: Type-1 DV file detected -- VirtualDub cannot extract audio from this type of interleaved stream.

Wierd that I never had these problems before.

Thanks in advance!

KC

Hi,

From your log and explanations I think your avi source is not recognized; Ref to AGK FAQ 5.12:
"5.12 What are limitations/features of AVI input mode?
- your OS has to be able to decode input AVI via Dshow (note sometimes decoder, for instance ffdshow, has problems with certain type of video, so you have to change it. See here for example..."
here: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=72679
Eventually try: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=694593#post694593

If that source codec worked in an older AGK rev, try revert back ,if not stay with MPEG(2?) source; my 2cts ;)

@shito

Do you have a DV codec installed on your PC? (Such as the MainConcept codec, or similar)

@BigDid: Doesn't this mean, if the Windows Media Player kann play the file I have a Dshow-filter for this filetype installed? Because the WMP can play the DV-AVIs. As for staying with MPEG2 I figured, since the program I'm using for edits (Magix Video deluxe 2004/2005) is not capable of SmartRendering, to preserve quality I'd rather go with DV-export then MPEG2 or am I mistaken?

@setarip_old: Yes, in fact I have the Panasonic DV-codec (http://users.tpg.com.au/mtam/install_panvfwdv.htm) installed. Should that be sufficient?

Thanks for the replies.

THanks man.. I had the exact same problem and I knew I was missing some codec here and there. THanks for the tip about MainConcept DV Codec. Now I am able to load the DV AVI on VirtuaDub.

Cheers
