hi!

really hope not to have mistaken section...maybe audio encoding...anyway

I got a dvd, and this dvd doesn't play well on one of my two dvd player...this dvd player is a Philips dvd612 (http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpindex.pl?sct=DVD_PLAYERS_SU&cat=DVD_PLAYERS_RECORDERS_CA&grp=HOME_AUDIO_VIDEO_GR&session=20060414093000_151.38.49.224&ctn=DVD612/001&slg=AEN&scy=IT), and the problem is that the audio won't be played (except the menu's audio) out of the coaxial output -> sony home teather (needless to say, I've tested other dvd's, and this output works! ;) ), but via TV the audio can be heard!
In the other dvd player, everything is allright!

may be the problem that this dvd is a NTSC dvd?
But anyway, it's strange, beacuse I've other NTSC dvd, and everything's all right..

Yeah, I know it's not a vital question, on a dvd player it works, but it really hurts me knowing that is not fully compatible...
thanks a lot! :)

Hi!

I'm guessing that the DVD probably has a DTS audiostream as its default audio - and that your Philips DVD612 is not capable of downmixing it to stereo for output through your coax.

Try selecting a different audiostream, either from the DVD's onscreen "Setup" menu, or by using the remote control's "Audio" (or "language") button...

first of all, my philips can read dts audio..
second, there's only an audio stream

and I don't understand why should it downmix to stereo, that my hometheater supprt dts and 5.1 !

the audio stream info obtained with dvddecrypter:

0xC0 - Audio - MPEG-1 / 2ch / 48kHz / 16bit / LBA: 8 / PTS: 00:00:00.228 / Delay: 0ms

Audio - MPEG-1Although MOST DVD players will play a DVD with MPEG1 LayerII audio, that format is not DVD-complaint - and you may have one of the few standalone DVD players that won't play a DVD with only MPEG1 Layer II audio...

...but how come that another dvd that is:

0xC0 - Audio - MPEG-1 / 2ch / 48kHz / 16bit / LBA: 24 / PTS: 00:00:00.243 / Delay: -72ms

is played correctly???

I have no idea.

Perhaps another member will be able to provide more insight...

however, thanks a lot for your tries! ;)

My pleasure ;>} -

(Verbose) although it would have been far more gratifying/satisfying if one of my suggestions actually resulted in solving this puzzle.

Perhaps you'll be good enough to post back here when you've resolved your dilemma?

...I could bet that I missed the right section...

Sure I'll post the solution when I'll got...but really I don't know what could it be..I'm surfing over the net with no results.. :(

a part from this sentence..
Puoi usare sia audio MP2 che AC3 (Dolby Digital 2.0) per un DVD PAL. MP2 non è permesso sui DVD NTSC, ma alcuni players lo supportano comunque.
that in english sounds like "you can use both Mp2 audio and AC3 (dolby digital 2.0) for a PAL DVD. Mp2 is not allowed on NTSC DVD, although some players read it anyway."

but my audio was mp1... anyway, assuming this is true also for Mpg1, then this could be an answer to my problem!
but I cannot explain to myself, if it's always Mpg1, why on a ntsc dvd cannot be played? Wouldn't be more logical that NTSC video is not played??

".MP2" audio IS MPEG1 Layer II - and I've already addressed this non-compliant situation with you earlier in this thread...

yes, but I said that I got another dvd with mpeg1 that sounds correctly! (but this dvd is a PAL DVD if could means something)

maybe, can I try to convert it to a pal dvd, and may it work?
or it's just a stupid thing?

PS: if mp2 is mpeg-1 layer II, what's the extension of mpeg2?!

PS: if mp2 is mpeg-1 layer II, what's the extension of mpeg2?!1) Both MPEG1 and MPEG2 FILES (video multiplexed with audio) are typically given the extender ".MPG" (Some "oldtimers" use ".MPEG" for MPEG2 to differentiate).

2) ".MP2" (or "M2A") is used to denote an MPEG1 LayerII audiostream...

ok, thanks a lot! now is clear! ;)

[...]use MPEG audio, even on NTSC discs, which goes against the DVD standard and is not supported by all NTSC players.
Discs containing 525/60 (NTSC) video must use PCM or Dolby Digital on at least one track.
Discs containing 625/50 (PAL/SECAM) video must use PCM or MPEG audio or Dolby Digital on at least one track.
so, I assume that the point is that it's an NTSC dvd with an audio not fully compatible, in fact the other dvd, with the same typ of audio track, works beacuse it's PAL!

in the next days, I'll give a try, and I'll convert the audio...
when I'll get the solution, I'll post it here! :)

or, may I have the same result by comverting the video from NTSC to PAL (which is far better to me, to have a PAL vid..)??
