As topic say, what should I do? Resize to 1024x546/720x400 or keep 720x546 and set SAR (Sample Aspect Ratio) to 16:9 in MyGUI?

Hvidgaard,
please re-read the forum rules (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm), in particular rule 12 which states: How NOT to post on this forum:
5 minutes after your initial post you reply to your own post writing something like "Why is nobody helping me? I'm sure you know the answer". Once somebody replies to your thread but doesn't give you exactly the answer you've been expecting you insult them.remember, no-one is getting paid to help you ... the members of this forum help others because they want to, NOT because they have to.

That is 24 hours and 48 minuts between the posts, but okay, if you say it is a violation of rule 12 then I apologize! My reason to make this "bump" was simple, it is a very quick question the do not need a long answer or explanation, hence one with some experience with dvd->xvid/x264 sould be able to help me out without much effort.

I'm very well aware of that, and do respect that very much (it the same all over the internet). I might be a "newbie" here (if you count the posts, have been reading the forums for a long time), but not on the internet ;)

H--A little advice; if you're going to "bump" a thread, add some additional information/details of your problem, that way, it's not a bald-faced bump, it will be a "value-added" post, and build upon your initial work. :)
I looked at this yesterday but have no experience with MeGUI. Have you already scanned the MeGui Guide (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=106189) for your fix?

you got a point there :) the thing is, there is not so much to add really :)
It is nothing related to MeGUI, it is just whenether I should resize or set the correct aspect ratio. As far as I have experienced setting the correct aspect ratio will show the video correct in eg. VLC, but not mediaplayer or MediaPortal (sad, but hopefuly it will in the future), but resizing will reduce the image quality a bit (both if you choose to resize horizontal (more pixels = less bits/pixel) or vertical (less pixles = information "lost")).
So, it really a question about maximum quality or maximum compatibility:( (unless there's something that I have overlooked)

All I can think of to add to this post is that no one can tell you what you should do to achieve "maximum quality" or anything else, because the bottom line is that what matters is what works and looks best to you. You've basically asked a subjective question which can in no way be answered accurately, and most experienced users here have learned to avoid such threads.

I know that, but this is not filtring of an vhs tape, it is not even about encoding! it is just if there is something that I should know about it? (perhaps it would be a bad idea to use non-square pixels for some reason!)

To make your choice easier
1) upsizing needs bigger filesizes/bitates than anamorphic encoding;that means if you don't encode upsized movies to bigger filesizes than anamorphic movies then the upsized ones will look worse
2) upsizing with Lanczos Resize to exactly your screen resolution might look a tiny bit better (remember point 1 though) than letting your player do it
3) encoding an upsized movies takes much longer
4) decoding an upsized movies takes more CPU power (relevant for AVC/x264) and might result in stutter on some machines
5) decoding an anamorphic movie correcty requires using the right setup/software

Thanks, that was exactly what I was looking for :D I guess it is anamorphic movies then :)
A movie in 720x546 would take ~2000kbit/s to keep 0.200bits/(pixel*frame) and an upsized movie in 1024x546 need ~2800kbit to keep the 0.200bits/(pixel*frame). That is 40% more :scared: better find a good player then :P
