View Full Version : No Video after converting to AVI from MP4

I've got a batch of videos that I'm trying to convert to AVI from MP4 using RiverPast Video Cleaner 6.11.

The conversion seemed to go okay but when I play the newly created AVI there's no video. I can hear the audio just fine but the rest is blank.

I've tried playing it with WMP, Quicktime, and Nero. I'm pretty sure all the codecs are up to date.

You're asking why I need to convert them anyway...
because I have a modded xbox that I use as a media center, and Mp4's don't seem to play well. About 5 minutes into the videos it gets real choppy and freezes for several seconds while the audio is still going, then it'll skip to the current frame and freeze there for several more seconds. Seems to get progressively worse the farther into the video you get.
This happens with ALL the Mp4's on the Box. AVI's seem to play fine which is why I want to convert a few to see if it makes a difference.

You have already sought information for this in another thread that you previously started at:

So why ask again?

No...
In the other thread I was looking for an App to convert MP4 to avi, it clearly says so in the subject heading.

If you read this new post I tried to make it very evident that I've already done the conversion using said program.

What I have now is a totally different issue.
I realize Duplicate posting is a violation (as so with most forums). I don't see what it is I'm duplicating.

Thread 1: "Need MP4 to AVI Converter
Thread 2: "No Video after Converting to avi from MP4"

...similar yes, maybe, duplicate no.
Thread 1 problem solved
Thread 2 different problem, unrelated to "Needing a Converter App".

Help me out if I'm missing something.

As I said in your other thread: If, for whatever reason, none of these meet your criterion of "a real solid piece of software that can do this" (This would include the "RiverPast Video Cleaner" you are now trying to use), just go back to your original source material that you used to create the .MP4 and instead create an .AVI (XviD-compressed or otherwise)...

Thank you...

I can't go back to the source material because they're long gone. The vids I'm interested in were Comcast On Demand rips that were recorded and converted long ago. They were fine to watch on the computer but now I'm having problems watching them on my XBMC, which is where I want them stored now in avi format.
