Hello, need some help to understand why Nero 7 is complaining about my DVD compilation.
It's complaining about some file size not being a multiple of 2K.
Despite it does not indicate which one, I assume it's the only VOB in my set (VTS_01_1.VOB).
But that file is 1.073.741.824 Bytes long, and so, it's a multiple of 2K (2048 Bytes).
So, why Nero is complaining with that ?
Thank you

What size are your IFOs? Even Ner0 can't be this bad. But I agree with r0lZ. Don't use it.
Make an ISO image and burn with ImgBurn (www.imgburn.com).

What size are your IFOs?57344 bytes (56KB). It's the output directly generated by the DVD Recorder. I also tried to delete all IFO & cia and generate new ones using IFOedit. No sucess.
But I agree with r0lZ. Don't use it.I'm almost stopping to cry. I bought it !
Even Ner0 can't be this bad.Agree. I just want to understand if I'm doing something very wrong.
I have a very basic question: Do I need to rip non-encrypted DVD ? (why?)
Thank you

Hi!
1) Do you possibly have conflicting software (such as Roxio) also installed on your system?
2) Do you have the NERO "InCD" program and drivers installed on your system? (It's a packet-writing program known to wreak havoc on the primary NERO burning programs)
If either is the case, try uninstalling the offending program(s). To remove "InCD" completely, use the NERO "cleaning" program (available from the NERO website)

1) Do you possibly have conflicting software (such as Roxio) also installed on your system?Roxio: No. Thinking about ImgTool Burn, ImgBurn
2) Do you have the NERO "InCD" program and drivers installed on your system? No, InCD not installed.
I just created a simple VOB file with TMPGEnc + DVDLab and Nero accepted it well as DVD-Video compilation.
Then I oppened the VOB from DVD Recorder on DVDLab and it says the VOB has Open GOPs. Could be this what Nero is complaining ?
Thank you

Could you list the size of your IFO, BUP and VOB files (file by file)? (Post the output of the DIR DOS command.)
Also, try to open your DVD in DVD Shrink. If something is wrong, it should complain.
ImgTool Burn uses Nero to burn the DVD, and is therefore not incompatible with it. ImgBurn is a clean program, and, as far as I know, it is incompatible with nothing.
You don't have to decrypt a DVD that is not CSS encoded. But remember that there are some other protections on the DVD, which will be left untouched (Macrovision, Zones, RPC2, PUOs...)

By the sounds of it, the source material is off the TV or something - as you keep mentioning 'DVD Recorder'.
So maybe your standalone DVD Recorder is producing bad files.

So maybe your standalone DVD Recorder is producing bad files.Yes, I'm starting to consider this. The DVD/VCR Combo commercial brand is INSIGNIA. I will try to get more info on this. As I said, DVD-Lab is informing the GOPs are not closed. DVD Shrink says nothing and open it correctly. Nero says it's not multiple of 2K ...
So, in the land of standalone DVD Recorders, am I facing something new ?
Thank you

The UDF 1.02 spec limit file size at 1GB, but they also use some of those bytes, meaning not all 1GB is available to video.
Considering video uses 2K lba blocks, the max file size is 1GB-2KB.
For some reason, the Insignia DVD Recorder is using the full 1GB for video and NERO is correctly stating it's not compliant.
Fortunately, DVD Shrink comply with UDF 1.02 and if I ask DVD Shrink to backup such non compliant VOB, it will remove 1 single lba (2K) in the middle of the non compliant VOB, making it now compliant and NERO is happy with that.
Not sure, but it sounds the fault started with Sony that introduced such groove to use the full 1GB and unfortunately Insginia follow them.
In theory, anyone using Sony DVD Records should be suffering same thing.
Thank you

Good to hear that you've apparently resolved your dilemma ;>}
I'd like to ask though - Are you using NERO in "UDF/ISO" mode or (as you should be) in "DVD-Video" mode?

Now in DVD-Video :)
It's funny. If you have a 1GB VOB file (non-complaint then) and burn it using the "UDF/ISO", it will create a playable DVD anyway. It seems the DVD Players accept well 1GB VOB files even not being 100% following the UDF 1.02 spec.
To be 100% under the specs, the VOB file must be 1GB less 2KB. And DVD Shrink help on that. I prefer to have my DVD 100% under the specs.
Bottom line, NERO was 100% right. But I would like to know why.
