Many thanks in advance to those kind enough to respond. :)

I would like to see if I can create a burnable kvcd file correctly (using Estranged's excellent guide). TMPGEnc 2.5 with the KVCD templates all ready to roll, the correct vob files ripped from a favourite DVD bought a few years ago.... But the vob files have to be converted to avi & uncompressed avi makes for one whopping great file.

Can I create a kvcd using compressed avi?

If yes, is there a specific codec I should use for the process that would work better than other codecs?

Also, (sneaking in another question here, hope that's ok?). Vob file conversion noobie: there's 4 of them - obviously they've got to be joined as well as converted. On RTFM's I think, AIUI, that VirtualDubMod & TMPGEnc will not join files while converting?

I do have other editing apps that will join & convert but they limit my choice of avi codecs too much & they won't create an uncompressed avi file because of the enormous size.

Again, TIA! :)

you don't have to convert your DVD to *.avi, just so you can converted it to another format (k/s/vcd)

just download dgindex or dvd2avi, load your *.vob files, and Save Project, then drag you *.d2v file into tmpgenc, and off you going

Excellent! Just the help I was looking for. Thank you so much. :)

This site & the folks here are a wonderful resource, I'm so glad I found it.

Off to D/L those apps....
