View Full Version : DVD-RB with a different encoder?

Hi there,
I've done some searching of this forum and haven't found an obvious answer -- hopefully some of the folks who develop DVD-RB (or have developed other of the addons) can help me out.
I'm wondering if it is possible to integrate a different encoder into DVD-RB? I'm doing some integration work for a company and they would like to use their own encoder - instead of the packaged choices.
If this is something that has been answered elsewhere, please point me in the right direction -- sometimes "search" only works if you already know what you're looking for. :)
thanks much!

It's can be done, I made my own prog to convert cce ecl files to TMPGEnc scripts to use with DVD-RB kinda like EclPro does for Procoder.

Usually there are two common ways to do it. One, as mentioned, is to convert the ECL files. The second is to put something between DVD-RB and the encoder that converts the QuEnc command line parameters passed to something the other encoder could use.

the best way would be to hire jdobbs full time for a stupid high salary so he can work on rebuilder full time and get the pay he deserves

kind of an old thread, but its relevent to my question.
will DVD-RB ever be compatible with other encoders, like Menc, or TMPGEnc in a future release? like without having to have to do all that was said above? i really have no idea how to do any of that stuff, and it would be nice if TMPGEnc or Menc were built right into DVD-RB.
not that the encoders that are compatible and that come with DVD-RB are good enough, but its always nice to have more options =].
i usually use TMPGEnc Plus to convert my Xvid/Divx to DVD, so it would be nice to see how well TMPGEnc works with DVD-RB. and on the topic of this, to anyone who has used TMPGEnc with DVD-RB, how well did it do?

I, like yourself, used TMPGEnc and tried it with a few RB projects. I was surprised to find that HC beat it's pants off in terms of quality and speed. I've been using HC on all my low bitrate and interlaced encodes since, and haven't looked back.
