Is there a way to encode video to high quality and high compression? CHecked out the Xvid decoder options, not sure if it applies when autoGK runs.

We like to think that's what AutoGK already does. Of course, if you compress it too much, you lose quality. And different sources compress very differently. Can you be more specific?

it was in reference to this thread,
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=107897&highlight=quality

Was reading bout it and I discovered that there are 'settings' that could allow faster compression, lower quality, high compression, highes quality, etc. I thought that maybe autoGK encodes a movie in the 'mid range' level so that it doesnt takes too long to encode. I came up with the conclusion that autoGK provides options for users to choose which compression (long or short) and quality (high or low) but I can't seem to get info on it. Cheers.

Newbie84 you probably need to look at the Guides section and specifically too for guides re: the codec you want to use (Dvix or Xvid).

Everybody's perception of what is High Quality is different, and everybody's perception of what constitutes High Compression is different as well. What you will have to do is make some test encodings (maybe dozens of them, maybe Hundreds of them!) until you find that combination of Quality and Filesize that "floats your boat"!

If you plan to manipulate the codec's settings to improve compression to suit your needs, you'll need to use a different program such as the full Gordian Knot. AutoGK doesn't allow for any changes to the codec's encoding properties. As it is, you can use AutoGK to resize the video and adjust the end file size to the point that the quality is acceptable to you while finding a smaller file size.

@ newbie84, there are more possibilities, but the ones given are the first choice, if you want to learn more :search:

Happy encoding

Hi-

OK, now we're getting somewhere. I've been following Teegedeck's thread for some time now. He states somewhere in there that he makes his AVIs for DVDR, usually putting 2 per DVDR. So, his may average more than 2 GB per movie. Nothing wrong with that, of course, although I would guess that the vast majority of people making AVI make them for a CD-R or 2 (700 or 1400 MB). He goes for very high quality, and relatively low compression when compared to the size most people make them. One way he gets this high quality is with the use of high bitrate quantization matrices, specifically Didee's six-of-nine matrix.

Because AutoGK was developed with, among other things, standalone DVD/MPEG-4 player compatibility in mind, and because Teegedeck and many others in that forum like to use custom quantization matrices and other settings used mainly for computer viewing (or for standalones using a Sigma Designs chipset, or for HTPC->TV), some of his ideas can''t really be used in AutoGK. I think that already the majority of people encoding for standalone viewing use AutoGK with the ESS or MTK option turned on. As mentioned, if you want to use his ideas in your encodes, you'll have to encode through GKnot or directly in VDubMod, and not through AutoGK.

Yes or could benefit to SAP users (using other tools)

Yes or if not, come here and ask why... stuttering, fancy colors, not starting, works on PC not on my SAP etc...

Yes or AGK Tweaker/AGKPal

This is why I pleaded for, at least, some correspondance for SAP users wanting to test or try; difficult task discussing with people not having a SAP (am sure the reverse is also true :) )

So I made a first trial for that correspondance with indication (/levels) regarding SAP users here: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=797287#post797287
Free of use and improvable if needed :)

1. Having used AutoGK for a good long time, I attempted to graduate to GK but it put me off completely. Am now happily using StaxRip instead--very nice UI w/lots of opptys for different settings templates.

2. I borrowed the MTK/Sigma matrix & Xvid build/settings from AGK, then use StaxRip (and often Fairuse Wizard) over AGK Tweaker. Easier to use and I prefer to use "Packed Bitstream" which is not used w/AGK.

Oops, we're out of newbie territory here. At least, although it's taken over a year of making misteaks with AGK & others, now at least I finally feel like I can give something back for a change... ;)
