yo, is there a place or thread where people have posted their most successful settings for any particular dvd. Is there an easy way to post/load these settings from/into dvdrebuilder? Many members I;ve seen are back-up mages ( >>wiizards)with extensive dvd collections, and a surf, like me, can benefit from guidance.. . I know each person's preferences might be different, i.e. there is no one best way, still would be intersting i think and might be of some help. Sorry if this exists I couldn't find it.

DVD Rebuilder can load and save templates. The purpose of the template is to customize your settings for certain types of sources. I added it a few versions ago for this purpose -- but there doesn't seem to have been a lot of interest. I think its probably because the default settings are optimal for most discs.

to me a the use of templates seems immensly useful, but all that is known about a video file before prepare stage could be as little as file size & sub/audio streams.

is there an easy or preffered method or program that will quickly give info on other aspects such as interlaced?,bitrate, compression level,ar and such
so one can make an easy "predetermination" of optimal settings such as encoder, or steal space,d1 etc.....

l8nights- yea, if such automation was possible, that would provide relatively definite improvement, that would be great. Good points on how templates could also be used.

Jdobbs-, , but also maybe because its hard to trade these templates online..or through dvd-reb itself (like DVD cover searcher pro)? I think also many users are automatically satisfied with the standard quality settings, not knowing about or not willing to expend the time, or not having the expertise to create superior backups. The 'templates' are important not for most (total # of movies), but for most 'commonly backup' / 'uncommonly difficult to backup well' discs.

For instance, I tried creating a backup of Braveheart a few days back, but saw a noticeable drop in quality. Maybe there are settings optimizable, but to do so I'll have to play around with multiple encodes etc. MAybe someone has done this and figured out the best stuff, since it is a very popular movie. Or maybe someone has experience, expertise and/or has seen the movie before and immediately knows what to do. I've this feeling that the quality is improvable somehow. Since you already have this functionality built in we just now have to make it simple to use it. My use of someone else's template still I guess may not be My own true best, but perhaps is better than default. I don't actually need help backing up Braveheart btw.

summary- bridging superior human expertise/intuition/ability to the masses that use DVDRB.

Just random thoughts from a noob who wants more pwnage by dvdRB

you could possibly send your templates it's stored in a file named templates in your RB directory, they are "rbt" files

but the sharing I think would be less useful as people are most definately going to preffer different encoders, some people will definately like the extra's some care not at all.

I have brought a point up awhile back [ http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=792814#post792814 ] about some kind of software that could analyze a video and give some suggestions as to the optimum settings for DVD-RB. My curiosity, however, was initiated by 'Writersblock29' (member) comment [ http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=787533#post787533 ] on this post [ http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=787169#post787169 ] .

Based on the discussion I would presume that such software as a "DVD Video Analyzer" would take time to develop but inclusion of Templates would be a viable alternative in the meantime and could be available as soon as feasible :) .

Just my 2 cents on this whole discussion about settings :D .

l8nights- yea so if all of these people uploaded their templates... I'm sure generally alot of ppl fit into one of the following 4 combos, either free enc, or cce/sp, either extra or just movie.. As you pointed out it is cumbersome to find and 'send' your *.rbt files. I'm talkign about something like DvD cover searcher pro-type database/interface. If you haven't seen it the site is http://www.cheapshareware.co.uk/. I'm also talking about quality etc. not just which encoder, I think one can adjust settings inside the encoder itself.

kruzader - yes that is what I kind of meant
