This is my problem, hope you can help me out:

I own a DVP5100K by Philips and everything works great except for these DVD's. They won't play at all, it's like they were not being detected so I can't see a thing.

The DVD's I'm talking about are "Alice In Wonderland - The Masterpiece Edition" and "Spirited Away".

I tried to play these DVD's from my PC and they worked, but I noticed they come with an autorun which pops up a screen offereing an installtion for some software player. Could this be the problem?, ever experienced something similar?, is there a setup I can use to avoid this from happening?, if I remove the installation files and burn the rest of the DVD on some double layer media, which my player can flawlessly play, will I be able to watch these movies uwing my DVP5100K?, any hint?.

Thanks in advance :)

Hi! noticed they come with an autorun which pops up a screen offereing an installtion for some software player. Could this be the problem?Nope - those files are not even seen by a standalone DVD player.

Are these your original, purchased DVDs that are problematic or backup copies?

If it's the copies, try playing your originals in the same standalone player and see if they exhibit the same problematic behavior.

If your original DVDs won't play in your standalone player, by all means, return them to the place of purchase in exchange for new replacements...

I suppose there is a chance the problematic discs might be encoded for another region. A region code hack (in order to make the player region free) might be worth a try. This can be acheived by inputting various codes via the remote, but I do not know what the sequence is for your particular model.

knowing the region of the discs might help - remember it's not just one release for the whole world, but several. they wont all have the same problems. :)

Thank you all!. The DVD is original and labeled as Region 1, my DVD is supposed to play ALL or Region 4. Point is, I made a backup today, removed the region code protection and it still doesn't work.

Region 1 is NTSC format, while I believe Region 4 is PAL format. Unless you have a multi-FORMAT capable player, a PAL player will not be able to play an NTSC DVD, regardless of region code or lack thereof...

This player supports multiple standards (NTSC/PAL) according to the manual.

I now break into the region code hack dance...an ancient ritual witnessed by few. Sometimes a hammer works as well.

I now break into the region code hack dance...No need to do that for the benefit of "Waleska", who has already stated,I made a backup today, removed the region code protection...

The Hack Dance is merely entertainment and is meant to confer no meaningful data (as is often the case with the Nudnik himself ). :D
