Hi!

If yours is a Region 1 DVD, try either of the following two PSL2 files:

@NBK_4_SINISTER

This is how to use a PSL2 file:

1) Open DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4 in "File" mode (Set to "Select ALL files", NOT just "movie files")

2) Load the DVD into DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4

3) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Protected Sectors List" - and select "Import"

4) Select the PSL2 file (DVD Decrypter will generate an "Accepted" notification)

5) Then use DVD Decrypter as you normally would to rip the DVD

I was able to successfully process this DVD with DVDD and PGCEdit. It now opens in DVDShrink, but shrink is very confused. When I try to Reauthor, Shrink does not find a main title. What is finds is part of one, being about 345MB. Looking at the main Shrink page, it seems the main title is now located in what Shrink calls "Unreferenced Material." That material has 5.8Gb. However, I can't find a way to reauthor the Unreferenced Material. I had this same problem after I had fixed up "The Squid and the Whale." I ended up Shrinking the entire DVD rather than reauthoring the main title. One "Capote," shrinking the entire DVD would result in a 34% compression ratio, way too low for my taste.

Any idea what has happened to confuse Shrink about the main title?

Thanks,

HDD

Hi!

If yours is a Region 1 DVD, try re-ripping with DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4 using one of the PSL files provided in posting #3 in this thread - and then use VOBBlanker to "process all"...

I used DVDD 3.5.4 and had no trouble with making the new PSL file (there was only one protected title). Mine was an R1 disc. However, I used fix VTS instead of VOBBlanker. Perhaps that's the problem. I just downloaded the latest PGCEdit with VOBBlanker and the PSL2 wizard (thanks, whoever put together the wizard!). I'll give it a try when I have some time again.

In the meantime, any advice on how to shrink my present copy?

Thanks,

1) I have no way of knowing if the PSL2 file you created is the same as one of the two links I provided in post #3. You might want to try either of the two - or compare yours to them, on a line-by-line basis

2) From personal experience (I had to exchange "Capote" twice), I know that there are some poorly pressed copies of this Region 1 DVD...

I too am running into some trouble here. You have said to set your DVDD to "select all files" which I have done. However after doing this, there are still 3 files that are not selected. Should I manually add these files? (they are VTS_12_0.IFO, VTS_12_0.VOB, and VTS_12_0.BUP)

Thanks a lot.

Have you tried the method used in Kill ArccOS in my signature? It totally automates it for you and will only rip the VTSs that need to be ripped.

Sorry,I did not see that step. I have just downloaded VOBBlanker and am using it for the first time. How do I go about doing this ("process all")? Is there a gude to using the program posted anywhere?

Load the rip into VOBBlanker, set a new output directory/folder, select "Process all" and then press the "Process" radiobutton...

You need not set a new ouput director/folder. Just tick "use input folder" and the processing will be done "in place". A backup is created in a subfolder.

In the future you may also want to try DVDFab Decrypter
http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm which removes all the protections during ripping and makes your life that much easier.

Yes, DVD Fab is the answer, IMHO. It is so easy. A real DVD decrypter for Dummies.
Also after decrypting you might run it thru VobBlanker just to make sure the vob-files are clean.
I have found that sometimes VobBlanker cleaning results in having more options, such as giving back previously missing subtitles.
(I happen to like English subtitles because my old ears miss some of the dialogue, especially when watching w/ wife.)
BTW, do not have DVD43 or AnyDVD running in the background. They interfere with DVD Fab decrypting.
Also before starting a project, reboot your PC so that Windows doesn't have a lot of old crap in memory.
And during a backup project never touch the PC unless it asks you to.

Procedure:
1. Reboot.
2. Close DVD43 or AnyDVD if you have them in background.
3. Decrypt w/ DVD Fab.
That should get you on your way.

I almost always Google "moviename decrypt dvd" before starting a DVD backup project.
Usually someone has already found a very good answer that I can use easily and for FREE.
...
