View Full Version : Irritating blocky contrast (DVD -> HQ XviD)

Hi.

I'm encoding some music videos from DVD to XviD with AGK. I'm trying to get the highest quality as I can (with reasonable bitrate/size). I'm always encoding with "Target quality" and "Auto width" settings on (res. 720xXXX). The problem is that some parts of the picture is very "blocky" with very visible pixels sometimes. In most cases you see it very clearly in those parts of the picture where there is a big color contrast (dark/bright).

Is there anything I can do to remove or make these "artifacts" look better and less annoying?

Here's some screenies (resized 200 %).

the artifacts you are mentioning are rainbowing and dorcrawl (that is not blocking!).

you may try triticals TComb() AVIsynth-filter.

In future please do not scale the images you want to be analysed.
The images can be zoomed afterwards.

Thx for your reply, and a fast one too. Lets see if the filter works for me too.

Next time I'm not scaling the pictures, sry.

EDIT: Holy macaroni. The TComb-filter is very useful. I haven't found exactly the right settings yet but I'm satisfied already. Just some tweaking/testing and it will be 100% proper.

Thx again for the tip scharfis_brain and thx also to tritical for this awesome filter.
