I am attempting to backup just trigun episode 01 as a test.
I got everything perfect however the intro and credits are pure progressive interlaced. So is there anyway to IVTC these? I read through most guides and I still don't entirely get it.

Hello and welcome to the forum-
...however the intro and credits are pure progressive interlaced.
Unfortunately, that makes no sense. It has to be one or the other. It's been so long since I've encoded the Trigun series that I can't remember what they were like. I only remember that I had a helluva time with it, getting it to IVTC properly.
Maybe you can be a little bit more specific. Maybe someone has encoded the series more recently and can help out.
If you're saying that the intro and credits are pure 30fps interlaced, and you want to make the whole thing 23.976fps yet minimize jerky playback of the Intro/End Credits, then there are a couple of things you can try.
You can try Decimate's Mode=3 from the Decomb filter which will blend 2 frames together out of every 5 to minimize jerkiness of the 30fps parts, while IVTCing the film parts normally, at the expense of some blurriness/blending. TIVTC has a similar method of dealing with hybrid material. Personally I prefer SmartDecimate for such material. It was designed with hybrid material in mind, keeps clean frames, at the expense of some slight jerkiness when IVTCing the 30fps interlaced parts down to 23.976fps..

SmartDeinterlace seems to be working great, thanks.
And yes, the intro and credits are pure 30FPS interlaced.
