Is Lightscribe technology something that is only bult into DVD writers? Does it have some kind of stand alone external device that does nothing but burn labels onto Lightscribe discs?

I have a Pioneer DVD writer that i am perfectly happy with. I dont see myself buying another writer for several years until the HD/Blu Ray Discs comes out.

I just need something to make the labels, that is all.

@Subferno,

I, too, sought a similar device, but was unable to locate one.

Having said that, I just saw a HP640e at Wal-Mart for $49.00! An incredible price, though I have no idea if it was a "local" pricing versus "national."

BTW, Wal-Mart also has the cheapest priced Verbatim Lightsctibe DVDs. $9.89 for 10. I have yet to find a cheaper price, either Internet or b&m.

I sincerely hope you don't mind a very personal opinion: I had a series of labeling printers, gardgets and other whiz-bangs (spent a lot of money, too). Lightscribe is great and I would not be without it again. Personally, if it was within my financial reach, I would spend the $50 for the HP (internal or external) just to eliminate the labels, cartridges, thermal ribbons and all the other crap associated with the label printing devices.

Of course, just one opinion..... Be well.....

Thanks Orexic, for your opinion.

I guess I will lay down some money for a new burner then. It may be awhile since I still have 40+ DVD-Rs to use up before I could get to the Lightscribe ones. In the mean time, I will let the discs drop in price as well as labeling speed to increase.
