View Full Version : Subtitles half off-screen

Last nite I encoded the Criterion version of Fellini's 'I Vitelloni,' R1. As I usually do, I did extras Half Space/Half D1, and KISS on the extras (via the RB script editor, then used RBOpt to remove the Undot().Deen() line from the main VTS so the movie itself would be unaffected). No preprocessing. So the problem is, subtitles in the extras are shifted way to the right, so they're only half on the screen (I guess they're still centered as if the resolution were still full D1). I've never had this problem before, and I practically always do 1/2+1/2 on the extras, along with KISS. As most of my video library is comprised of nouvelle vague pictures, I'd notice if I had subtitling problems in other cases. Any ideas on how to fix this issue, besides removing the half-d1? Thanks!

[EDIT] sorry, should have mentioned my RB version: 1.09.2

MOve em where you want them to be with DVDSubEdit (http://www.videohelp.com/~DVDSubEdit/).

wow, awesome -- I'll do that. thank you! :)

still, seems like this might be a bug for jdobbs to address (?). I'm fairly certain that I haven't had this issue before, and I've been using rb for 8 months or so.

Are you seeing the problem in a software player? The subtitles should be overlaid after the picture has been stretched -- but some software players don't play half-d1 subpictures back correctly. Normally it works in a standalone though... have you tried that?

hey, you're absolutely right -- my settop player renders the subtitles correctly. I just assumed that if PowerDVD was messing it up, then it wouldn't work elsewhere. this is probably the reason I hadn't seen the error before -- I hadn't tested the extras & subtitles on my computer before burning. thank you!
