The guide suggests that you use the 'preview' to test out things like subtitles before you start encoding. How can I use the preview to determine file size, whether or not its a single or double pass & whether or not the files will be progressive or interlaced.

I think that this preview will give me guide as to the inputs amount of compressibility & it says that about 75% is considered good. If I then alter a setting does the entire preview scan have to be done again?

Hi-

The Preview has nothing to do with file size, number of passes or interlace/deinterlace.

You choose whether 1-pass or 2-pass encoding. The default is for 2-pass encoding for a file size you set yourself. If you change to a 1-pass Target Quality, then you can't set a file size at all. Since these will be made into AVIs, they will always either be progressive to begin with, or made progressive either through IVTC or the use of a deinterlacer.

The Preview is mostly useful for making sure that you have the right subs.
