I am trying to back up memiors of a Geisha with dvd shrink and am getting the error: data error (cyclic redundancy check) at 12% during analysis, It's a brand new disk never been used, and I have cleaned it, I am assuming encryption?
I tried dvd decrypter and am getting the error I/O error at 3%

Hi!

"Memoirs of a Geisha" is an "ARccOS" copy protected DVD - which neither DVD Decrypter, nor DVD Shrink can deal with directly. As such, there are several ways to backup this DVD.

I dealt with it by using my favorite "one-step" all inclusive (rip, compress, burn) commercial software, DVD95Copy.

If you do a search at these forums for "ARccOS", you'll find other solutions, some frreware and others commercial...

I just did MOAG using DVD Shrink with AnyDVD decrypting in the background. Free 21 day trial on AnyDVD and it will allow you to open all DVDs in all your programs as if they're un-encrypted.:sly:

I used Pgcedit and it copied to the hard drive, No problem. Yet when I tried DVD Shrink I only was able to burn the last part of the movie

I tried DVDDecrypter and PGCEdit using the plugin wizard on NTSC region 1 DVD and though the rip did complete, after the next steps, there appears to be unreferenced cells throughout all of VTS01 IFO, thus a FIXVTS b1.24 removes them and leaves only a 288MB VTS_01_1 VOB. All other VOBs, " VTS_01_2 thru VTS_01_7" are removed. If you only use FIXVTS without the PGCEdit wizard, it does seem to "clean up" the VOB's but the movies skips thru the beginning to 21:36:00 and then plays using IFOEdit. PowerDVD continues to play from the same location but says it is 5:06, and if you try to skip chapters by clicking the chapter advance button, it brings it right back to the 5:06 mark. DVDFab Decrypter seems to be rip and clean up this DVD properly.

DVD Shrink Encountered an error?
Sony recently introduced ARccOS - DVD-Video Copy Control ("face the creators of illegal copies with ARccOS copy control!" --- pleaseeeee) on some new dvds like Resident Evil 2 Region 1 for instance. To bypass this just rip with the new DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 to an .iso image then open the .iso with dvdshrink and process it. Also some other titles if you encounter an error in DVD Decrypter go to Tools | Settings | I/O tab then check Ignore Read Errors.

Hi!

I know your post is well intentioned, but you're quoting an outdated posting.

The current versions of "ARccOS" can no longer be overcome solely and directly by DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4...

You can try following a procedure like this (this guide is movie specific, but the method will work on any Sony DVD):

http://rapidshare.de/files/13888439/Legend_of_Zorro.pdf.html

and combine it with what I wrote on Memoirs of a Geisha in AD. I do not own and never had possession of this DVD, so I cannot test this, but there is no reason that it should not work (bascially, this is actually a full-guide, but text only):

-cells 1 thru 61 are not needed
-Strip VobIDs will work perfect for this one!!!!
-VTS_15 is Bogus!!!

First Disable AnyDVD, DVD43, or any other on-the-fly decrypter!!

Rip [using DVD Decrypter] in IFO Mode beginning with Cell # 62 (you can choose to begin with Cell 63 if you wish, but I recommend keeping cell 62).

Rip the rest of the disc in File mode (do not forget the main menu) DO NOT RIP VTS_15

Create a new folder to save the IFOEdit work

Now, launch IFOEdit

Click on the "VobExtras" button. It is located on the bottom of your screen.

Make sure that "Strip VobIDs" is checked!!!

Set the destination and click Next...

Keep only VobID 2 (make sure only this is checked!!!) Then click "strip it"

Drag and drop the processed files over the original

Re-open IFOEdit and open VTS_01_0.IFO. Expend "VTS_PGCITI" and select "VTS_PGC_1".

Scroll down to the command table (roughly 1/10 down). Double click on "number of cell commands" and change the value to 0. Save the IFO and exit.

Re-open IFOEdit and open VIDEO_TS.IFO. Press "Get VTS Sectors" then exit the program.

If you ripped cell 62, then you should be finished, so launch DVD Shrink.

If you did not rip Cell 63, process the DVD with FixVTS. When finished, DVD Shrink should have no problems.

tryed Roxio Disc Copy(came with my burner) since DVD decrypter was freezing my PC with this DVD and it perm broke the program, even a reinstall doesn't fix it, I can't even use creator classic anymore (for standard data discs) the programs just stop responding and close on me, this DVD wouldn't have any malware on it (eg. Sony CDs)? Excellent movie though so I can forgive the copying problem!

I see the above steps to rip it, I'll try them later (thanks) just wanted to throw out my story :P

Hi!this DVD wouldn't have any malware on it (eg. Sony CDs)?No - only "ARccOS" copy protection (in addition to the standard CSS and Macrovision that appears on virtually all commercial DVDs)...

There is PSL2 for DVD Decrypter http://forum.digital-digest.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4504&d=1143589168

Thank you

B:( ut where do you put this psl2?

setarip_old
31st March 2006, 22:35
@Jack'n'xbox

Hi!

This is how to use a PSL2 file:

1) Open DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4 in "File" mode (Set to "Select ALL files", NOT just "movie files")

2) Load the DVD into DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4

3) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Protected Sectors List" - and select "Import"

4) Select the PSL2 file (DVD Decrypter will generate an "Accepted" notification)

5) Then use DVD Decrypter as you normally would to rip the DVD

Jack'n'xbox
31st March 2006, 22:50

Did as you said, the file was imported but the error was that the psl was a mismatch?

Redownloading to try again.

You must have same region as pls file. You must aslo use FIXVts to correct this vobs. Anyway if you want to convert this film to mpeg4, you may rip in different way. In chapter1 remove all cell except last one. You should get subtitle and audio desynch but DGIndex will you get delay value and you get Stream information form DVD Decrypter where aslo you get delay informations for all streams. There is another PLS probably for another region http://forum.digital-digest.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4526&d=1143734473

Hi,

I followed the steps for PSL ( thanks for the very good explanation, always good to learn) but it consistantly gives me a error at 88%:

I/o Error
ScSi Status OxO2
Interpretaion: Check Condition
CDB 28 00 00 38 od 06 00 00 01 00
Interpretation: Read (10) - Sector 3673356
Sense area 700 03 00 00 00 0A 00 00 00 11 00 00 00 00

Any help on what that means and what I can do would be great.

Sounds like you've got either a dirty disc or a damaged or poorly pressed one. Try cleaning it. If you still encounter the same problem, return it to the place of purchase in exchange for a new replacement.

Progress!!!!
I got dvd Decypter to work but dvd shrink gives me an error when I select open files and chose the Video_TS;

Failed to open file "K:Memoirs_of_A_Geishia\VIDEO_TS_02_0.IFO
The System Cannot Find the file specified.

Does this shine a light on anything for anybody?

As for there being no reason why I shouldn' return the disk - I agree. You are absolutely correct and after all is said and done I more than likely will but sometimes the destination isn't as interesting as the trip.

Thanks

K:Memoirs_of_A_Geishia\VIDEO_TS_02_0.IFOIs this location correct? Or should it be looking in a folder named "VIDEO_TS" for a file named "VTS_02_0.IFO"?

Do you have (wherever it's actually located) a file named "VTS_02_0.IFO" for "Memoirs of a Geisha"?

Flying_bluedog

Did you use DVD Decrypter in "File" mode and select ALL files [NOT only "movie" files]?

Please list here all filenames and filesizes in your hard drive's ("Memoirs of a Geisha) "VIDEO_TS" folder...

Flying_bluedog
1st April 2006, 22:49
I have gone back and made sure DVD Decrypter is set as directed. I am running it again. This new run will replace all the old files in the "Memoirs of a Geisha" folder. When it is complete I will post all files in the " video TS" folder.

This is frustrating but I'm kind of enjoying the challenge. I guess that makes me a glutton for punishment.

Thanks for the help. I'll post as soon as it's done.

setarip_old

When it is complete I will post all files in the " video TS" folder. Do this only if DVD Shrink once again generates an error message.
