I'm still using a Pioneer A03 (1x ... ...)

I'm lookig for a new one.
What hints on:
- Sony DRV-810A
- Pioneer DVR-111
- Plextor

The Sony comes with Nero (legal copy).
Some people tells that Plextor's are better.

Any input is welcome.

The brand to me is not important, however the burning speed is more of a concern. Plextor is my obvious choice.

thanks for the answer.

I will use it, on the PC that runs Scenarist 2.7
Do you know if Plextor "talks" properly with Scenarist on the DoubleLayer issue ?

90% of may projects are DVD5 and for the DVD9, I do the DLT tapes.
I feel that burning DVD9 masters on DVD DL is to risky at the moment.
But for data should be ok.

With the HD DVD's near, I feel that all this is not going to last to long.
Maybe not, I don't know.

I use a NEC ND4550. It's solid and burns disks that actually work so far :scared: !

(BTW make sure you benchmark you burner using the correct criteria. Fast<>compatibility)

These benchmarks are a bit dated. Sorry 'bout that. However, they do show the type of performance advantage Plextor has enjoyed in the past.

Maybe someone can dig up more recent benchmark tests?

I would also say Plextor is likely to give the best results.

Until recently I used nothing but Sony drives in my builds, but reliability has been spotty.

Additionally, there is the issue of Sony's installation of malware through various delivery mechanisms. Who knows what lurks in their latest firmware and bundled software?
