Just to let you know the BBC HD tests are actually up and running now the frequency and spec is as see more digital stated, bar the fact it's in in DVB-S at present and the ID is 6940, currently simulcasting an upscaled transmission of BBC1.
how you recieve DVB-S2 ???hardware??

We also have HD over DVB-T here in France.
Codec seems to be Anteme for FranceTelevisions HD channel.
Freq is 490.167MHz in Paris, stream is 10.5MBits (1440x1050i, with MBAFF interlacing).
Tomorow, we start the second HD stream in that frequency. For now, we have a 13MBits 0xffffff stream, that should change in a few hours :)
That will be interesting to see PS/TS with two HD stream packed inside, but it will be very hard to handle them as nearly no TS softs accept such streams :(
I may start a new thread regarding that aspect soon.

i wanted to add that Anixe HD is allready transmiting it's programm but they didn't could hold their promise of two first class movies every weekend, seems hollywood made a step back (they advertised with Pictures of Star Wars and Batman Returns at the begining). Even the On Demand content is not that promising yet :(
Example of the On Demand stuff that's not even HD http://88.198.33.104/MAM/data/Film/c_00000/67/format51.wmv
sorry but this is so bad im shocked.
And im ashamed of myself as a German about what we put up in the area of High Bandwith VOD @ the moment.

BBC-HD has just updated their encoder.
So far noticed:
1: AR Signalling is fixed (old AR: 1964 x 1080. new AR: 1920 x 1080) The video is still 1440:1088 AR 16:9 25fps
2: The bitrate has been set around 2-3mbit lower
3: a .ts captured with dvbviewer can now not be played with MPC internal .ts splitter (MPC used to play all, where Haali failed, now its the other way around)
Short 10mb sample: bbc_apr_2007.ts (http://files.x264.nl/force.php?file=./bbc_apr_2007.ts)
Sadly still no FULL HD 1920x1088, we can only pray!

Since Freesat got the go ahead, what do you think this could mean for free-to-air HD availability? I know that Freesat is predominantly BBC and ITV, and both broadcasters have their own HD channel (BBCHD and ITVHD) but this could be good news for HDTV investors, right? We all know satellites have great bandwidth available.... :D

Did they change something in the way they mux the AC3 into the transportstream? I could always use projectx to get the AC3 from BBC HD recordings but now it will no longer work. I know I can use other software to demux the AC3 but I liked that PX would also report errors in the stream.

Could very well be possible, as MPC internal splitter also has issues with the .ts, as in it wont play.
Haali's splitter and gdsmux.exe work perfect with the new files. You will have to report it to the projectx creator i guess.
@all:
For those who care some new bitrate figures:
Old bitrate ~17.7mbit video
New bitrate ~15.0mbit video

I know what's wrong. The stream has MPEG-1 Layer 2 PES start codes with AC-3 audio. That is, the audio PES is using a start code of 0x000001c0 instead of 0x000001bd.

Hmmmmmm
The BBC-HD transponder (because BBC1 also) has this problem:
PMT - Table incomplete
When i capture a .ts, it can not play!!
dvbviewer and altdvb to however give video + audio.
This a bug, or new a way to stop people from capturing video?

The PAT is pointing to a PMT that doesn't make sense with what's in the stream.
The PMT is for some MPEG-2 program on the transponder.
Is there any way to capture the entire transponder?

The PMT has changed, try a rescan,it should fix it, the new one is 258 I think. With regards to changes the 12.324 transponder appears to have changed parameters as well so thats another one to keep an eye on.

...This a bug, or new a way to stop people from capturing video?I'm able to play the "Bad.TS" sample using MediaPlayer Classic's "Internal" MPEG PS/TS/PVA splitter filter.... But not with Haali.

@Flaarn
Yup, i just delete the channels, and rescan the whole transponder.
When you wake up you think much clearer..... thnx :)
@SeeMoreDigital
Hmm yup, same here, but the AR was completely funked, even when going full screen, the video was bad.
Anyways, its fixed now.... just bad timing of BBC-HD, wanted to put Hustle on my HDD, but it will rerun! :)

There's a free tool available now that fixes the wrong AC3 PES start codes in BBC HD TS recordings. After that, all software should be able to detect and play the AC3 stream happily

Nice, however, direct muxing .ts to .mkv using gdsmux.exe that comes with Haali's splitter works perfect too.

I'm just throwing ideas around at 1.30 in the morning, but I suppose the requirements for receiving BBCHD are:
1) a satellite dish,
2) a DVB-S2 card,
3) a valid H.264/AVC decoder,
4) a computer fast enough to decode it in real-time.
Now I'm aware of 1), cause I can probably acquire a Sky Digital dish depending where I move next year. 2) I'm not sure about, suggestions anybody? 3) I thought ffdshow was compatible, but I know said valid H.264 decoder needs to support either MBAFF, PAFF or both, and I can't remember which BBCHD uses and which ffdshow has! 4) I'm guessing a Core2Duo E6300 / E4300 will be fast enough? And would I need a graphics card with hardware acceleration?
This is for the new computer, so's I can enjoy HD (finally!), and not stay behind the times. ;)

2) No, not yet, still on DVB-S, current trial ends I think in July? After that they are likely to switch, but I havn't seen any info yet.
4) Yip, my E6300 struggles a bit, still can't really get live smooth, but I have yet to overclock. Just plays back the recordings I make.
BBC is MBAFF, but ffdshow has no chance on a E6300 at stock with it being single thread :(

2) No, not yet, still on DVB-S, current trial ends I think in July? After that they are likely to switch, but I havn't seen any info yet.
The trial has recently been extended until november while the BBC Trust performs a Public Value Test for BBC HD to determine if it should become a permanent channel.
It is still broadcasting on DVB-S and it won't switch to DVB-S2 as long as it still shares a transponder with two SDTV regional BBC1 channels because people with old receivers should still be able to watch those channels. I don't know if there are any plans to switch either BBC HD or the SDTV channels from that transponder and start broadcasting on DVB-S2 but I would expect it to stay DVB-S at least until the end of the Public Value Test.
If it gets to stay on the air after that it will probably still not switch to DVB-S2 unless they can share a transponder with another HDTV channel. After all, it would be a waste of transponder space if they had a whole DVB-S2 transponder for BBC HD when they could keep it DVB-S and stick two SDTV channels on that transponder to use the space that BBC HD doesn't use.

Thanks Paul, I went hunting for info a couple few weeks ago, but found nothing new.
I'm glad my Skystar has some life left in it yet.
I know they are continuing to up the percentage of HD production, there's certainly no chance of the channel going off air, but timelines for progression are still unclear.
The transponder line-up does need re-jigging, channel5 needs to move so they can go FTA.
