videolan and subtitles

MPEG-4 TTXT creation is already supported in MP4Box and Quicktime. Playback works with Gabest's and Haali's MP4 dshow parser, Osmo4, Realplayer and Quicktime (only when placed in .3gp) and VideoLAN.

Have pb with videolan (still trying to view AVC+he-AAC+subs : thanks to Yamb, no more cmd here :))

Here the thing : Mpc plays the sub well, ttxt files show strange caracter for "é à, ç" when I open it with notepad. but still no pb with mpc.

Videolan plays the same strange caracter... It's important for me that VLC can display these good, cause of my ISP modem who can stream video on TV with vlc.

i have never used TTXTs so far, but you description makes it sound like the TTXT file is UTF-8 encoded without a BOM (a code at the begin to mark it as UTF-8 encoded).

If it had the BOM, notepad would display it correctly, but without the BOM it probably thinks it is a ANSI file, or in your system's codepage. MPC on the other hand might expect TTXT files to be UTF-8 so i decodes it correctly even if the BOM is not present.

You can try adding a BOM with a text editor. This could fix the problem with VLC (but maybe the TTXT forbids BOMS and thus it could break other software). In notepad you can file->open in the dialog you have drop-down at the bottom labeled "encoding", set it to UTF-8 and open the file and save it as UTF-8 - i suspect this adds a BOM.

vlc propably doesnt decode them as utf-8?

this is the header of the ttxt file, I don't think there is a pb with it....

the .ttxt file isnt 1:1 stored in .mp4, it gets converted during import

make sure your .ttxt is stored in utf-8 (and not only says "utf-8" in the first line)

but as vsfilter/mpc decodes it fine i assume its a bug in vlc
