So I have ripped the disc to hard drive with dvd decrypter. was planning on using dvdshrink, but it can't read it because an overlapped I/O operation is in progress in main movie VTS_7_01.vob. Tried running it through dvdfabdecrypter as suggested in another thread, but to no avail. Have also run it through vobblanker, but because of the multiangles it skips the entire VTS_7. any assistance would be greatly appreciated. many thanks.

Have also run it through vobblanker, but because of the multiangles it skips the entire VTS_7.After receiving this notification from VOBBlanker, just select "Process all" and then press the "process" radiobutton.
This is a "RipGuard" copy-protected DVD...

multiangle? that'll be either R2 or R4.
in which case it is NOT BY ANY MEANS RipGuard protected (though i can't speak for the r2 one - the data on it is bit-identical to the r4 one, but Optimum might have used a different replication house).
this shouldn't be a problem to rip, at least no attempt was made to make it diffucult except the usual CSS (ghibli would never sign off on it if it weren't CSS'd i imagine). DVDdecrypter should be enough. though i confess i haven't got my copy yet so i haven't tried ripping it.
if there really are problems with this disc, please accept my and my housemate's apologies (i encoded, he authored). several test pressings were made, and there weren't any ripping problems with those, just using pioneer/asus drives.
btw, if you're backing this baby up, and you're in australia, you should've got the standard edition (the cheaper one :)) because the max bitrate is higher and the GOP structure was allowed to vary (no multiangle means less difficulties). though they both look fantastic :). but for now, just use decrypter to rip 1 angle at a time. you wont be able to recompress this baby much - the master is so unbelievably crisp, and with so much subtle detail that is was a real challenge getting it to fit in 7200 CBR let alone DVDshrinking it.

multiangle? that'll be either R2 or R4.The Region 1 DVD, which DEFINITELY contains "RipGuard" copy protection, is also multi-angle. It allows for English and Japanese credits and English, French, and Spanish visual items (signs, newspaper headlines, etc.) appearing throughout the movie.

Can you just use FixVTS on this?

Can you just use FixVTS on this?Probably (after ripping with DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4) - but VOBBlanker DEFINITELY processes a DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4 rip of this DVD properly...

I have run the files from DVD decrypter through the said programs above. I am mainly doing this to fix an audio sync issue when converting the .vob files into .mp4 files. The audio plays before the video and I have tried about everything. Was anyone able to get this movie in .mp4 without delay if so how?

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I'm having the same difficulties it seems everyone else has been having encoding this movie. After perusing search, it isn't really clear if anyone ever got it to work.
I've found that not only is the audio out of sync in English, but it seems its out of sync in Japanese by some different value (around a half second, but I have no way to measure), and the subtitles are out of sync by some third offset. I've tried the RipIt4Me/DVDDecrypter combo and DVDFabHD to rip and processed both attempts with VOBBlanker to no avail. Any ideas at this point are welcome. If you have sucessfully ripped and encoded this movie in sync, please tell me your secret mojo.

@ub3rg33k
Hi!
I successfully ripped the Region 1 DVD (with NO resultant asynchronous problems), by doing the following:
1) Rip using DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4 in "File" mode (select "ALL" files, NOT "movie" files) and
2) Load the rip into VOBBlanker, set a new output directory/folder, select "Process all" and then press the "Process" radiobutton

Sorry, this didn't work. Its still out of sync (although it seems to be much closer) and now some transitions between scenes are messed up. Instead of fade out/fade it, its extremely blocky, almost like a mosaic transition. I can't grasp what it is I'm doing wrong here.
