View Full Version : XviD crashed on encoding certain frame!

i was backuping my dvd using XviD (ver 20051230 1.10 koepis vanilla cvs build). i use VirtualDubMod as my encoding tool.

VDM crashed on certain frame in the movie (near #36545). i've re-tried but still crashed at that certain frame.

then i cut a small clip around that frame (36445~36715) and encode to XviD, also crashed on that frame.

i've about 280M physical ram free when encoding, and i've tried saving the avi into different partition and folder, no one works.

i changed to x264 vfw, and it works perfectly on that clip. and i encode the x264 avi clip, and XviD crashed again...

i've no idea about this. could anyone help me?

(if need, i can offer the small x264 encoded clip for testing)

my XviD setting:
single pass constant quantizer 3.0
AQ, 1/4 pixel, B-VOP(3, 1.0, 1.0), mpeg-custon-hvs-best, packed bitstream
Motion Precision (Ultra High, Wide Search, VHQ for bf, chroma motion)
Quantization(3, 4, 3, 4, 3, 4, no trellis)
Cartoon mode & chroma optimizer enabled

regards,
MR

Try 1.2-cvs from koepi, even if the multithreading isn't useful to you, the crash might've been fixed. If not, the clip would definitely be important!

Yes we need the clip.

There are no known crashing bugs in xvid since 1.0, so if you can crash with 1.1 but not with 1.2.-127, we still want it, because whatever it was it wasn't fixed.

1.2.-127 (Latest unstable binary
XviD-1.2.-127-25022006.exe (630kb)
Changelog to XviD-1.1:
- {core}: New experimental SMP support.
- {core}: Trellis improvements (according to sysKin).
- On uniprocessor machines set number of threads to 0!) crashed

VERY IMPORTANT HINT!

The resolution of this clip is 848*480.

when i resize it to 640*480, it doesn't crash!!

848*480 crash!!

Last question, what settings.

My first encoding attempt, at defaults with my random build, did not crash.

"random build"?

"random build"?

Sure :D
Whatever I currently have installed, without checking. It's most likely my build, equivalent to 1.2.-127 CVS, but in theory it can be anything I was working on.
This could also be Koepi's build, I kinda remember I downloaded it once to check something. Not sure though ~

If I turn on full processing mode and display decompressed output, it crashes at the same point each time. This is reproducible with lots of clips, not just this one. Hence I'm not sure if it's the same crash as the OP.

should say i encode it under fast processing mode.
and XviD crashed on other certain frames in that movie.
seems it may becuz of a rather big motion on a high-resolution picture >_>

bump. any results?
