firewire out from wmp

is there a way i can use the windows media player to play
files and have the output go to my firewire card? i have the
card plugged into an external firewire to analog converter
box for viewing on my old 27" tv set. i'd love to be able to
play dvd's and such from the computer in the room this
setup is in. i use this setup to play out from adobe premiere
but that's not a practical way to view things like dvd's or
non-dv content.
