I just purchased a new Double Layer drive (BenQ DQ60) and I’ve been looking for DVD+RW DL blank media. I looked on Verbatim's web site and it doesn’t look like they manufacture this flavor of disk.
Anyone know which DVD+RW DL disks are reliable?

Hi!
I don't believe ANYONE is manufacturing DL DVD+RW media (or ANY DL RW media, for that matter)...

Yes after looking around the net, I can't find any either.
Funny becuase my new drive says it can record to DVD+RW DL. I wonder how Benq knows it can, if there's no blank media out there.
Thanks for the confrimation, I thought I was going crazy.

I wonder how Benq knows it can, if there's not blanl media out there. The answer is simple - If it can burn DL DVD+R, it will be able to burn DL DVD+R/W...

The reason is that RW has too few reflection on the second layer!!
They have big technological problems.

Frank your right, there are big technology problems with the whole optical storage system (burning DVD’s or CD’s to blank media).
We all have problems, like disks that won’t play or disks that played a few months ago, but won’t play now and compatibility issues with defrant stand-alone players.
For instance, I created a family album by scanning about a 1000 old pictures into my computer. Obviously something that time consuming and precious needed to be backed up properly.
Knowing that optical storage was not reliable (although reliability does go up a little with Verbatim disks), I decided to purchase a 120 Gig external hard drive. With it, I can also back up my movies. It’s not as portable as a single DVD disk and not everyone has a USB connection that ports to a TV or projector, but there is never a glitch, jump, pixilation or full stop and to me magnetic storage (hard drives) are much more reliable.
What I’m saying is we’ve all been duped. Paying for drives and disks that aren’t reliable for back up. More formats (Blue-ray or HD) will only bring the same problems. If I sat down and thought about the time and money put into each “good” back-up, I think I could have purchased two copies of the same movie.
Maybe the fact that so many of our burned disks don’t play correctly, is kind of like copyright protection being played out on a more fundament level. And RIAA or MPAA didn’t even have to come up with this one

What I’m saying is we’ve all been duped. Paying for drives and disks that aren’t reliable for back up.I'm afraid I have to take exception to such a "universal" statement.
If you base your statement on the number of postings you read at this and other forums regarding burning problems, that is terribly misleading, for several reasons:
1) First and foremost, because the multitude of people who don't have problems burning their DVDs have no reason to post ;>}
2) Many of the posted problems have to do with posters' lack of knowledge such as,
"What is DMA and why do I have to have it turned on"
"I have NERO and Roxio and this burning software and that burning software installed on my system"
"What is 'InCD" and why should I remove it?"
"I installed this hacked firmware and now my 4X burner makes coasters at 16X"
"I bought this DVD media on EBay for a penny each and they won't burn properly"
"My friend gave me this DVD and I can't copy it"
"These scratches/fingerprints/smudges/peanut butter and jelly shouldn't cause any problems, should they?"
"I got this Asian DVD for $1.00 and I can't copy it"
3) Many people just don't make the effort to determine compatibility (media/burner, media/playback unit)

I hear you Setarip_old. I know most of the postings are by people having problems, otherwise they won’t post.
But when Lighting UK continues to posting about problems he’s having and the memory of Derrow only lives on with IfoEdit (did 321 lock him up or somthing), it is then I believe we are participating in more of a hobby than a genuine reliable back-up scheme.
But I’m no trader. When I’ve got my label just right and the burn goes well and the movie plays with out a glitch, somehow I feel like I’ve won and that’s enough to make me want to read more posts and dream of buying a HD-r/w drive one day. :)
We're all hooked.

Pardon me but I fail to see the connection, and I'm afraid firmwares of pre DVDRW DL drives will do as well.
BTW isn't it a bit odd that there are no double sided DVD-RWs nor DVD+RWs just DVD-RAMs?
