I have just here someone say that in addition to the usual sort of subtitles that you can turn on & off there is another sort that is permanently displayed & can't be turned off. If this is the case where can I find out more about it & are they any easier to work with then the regular ones?

I'm not sure if your asking about DVD subtitles, Old Timer, or if your asking about subtitles that have been burned in to AVI files produced by AutoGK or GK. This is the (A)GK Forum. Is this the right place for your question?
DVD subtitles may include "Forced Subtitles" -- which are designed to appear on a player's output even subtitles are currently unselected by the player.
If this is what you're looking for, please do a keyword search for "Forced Subtitles" -- you'll find that they're not often as "easy" to deal with as a standard subtitle. If, after searching, you have some remaining questions about these, we can move this thread to the Subtitle forum, which would be the best place to discuss them.
If, instead, you're asking about burned in subtitles, then yes, this is the right forum. Just let us know.
